Decent Read

This review is primarily on Chetan Bhagat’s overall work. This is the 3rd book from Chetan Bhagat and I have read all 3 of them. The first one... 5 point something.. I found it wonderful and it had humor, romance, emotion etc. The next one "One night at the call center" was also very nice. I found it hard to put the book down.

I find the simplicity in his style of writing very endearing. The plots are simple and so is the language. In addition, they are relatively short. maybe at the max 250 pages. If I am not wrong, I would think that "3 mistakes of my life" is his longest novel. In today’s world, many people want a quick entertaining read.. something enjoyable, simple plot and short and I feel Chetan’s work matches these needs. Besides his audience is primarily the youth which is a majority of India’s population

I also noticed that all his books were at a very good price point( under Rs 100). I believe this price has made pirating this book unviable since even a pirated edition cost around Rs 60.. An additional 35 Rs would get the legitimate copy minus the headaches of missing pages, readability etc

As far as his latest work goes, I liked this one too. But this one differs from the others in that it starts delving into more serious territory... like riots., Not to say that this is undesriable.. I believe every author should improvise on his work and I think Chetan is doing that. Still he has managed to keep enough humor in the novel.. However I did not find this novel unputdownable unlike his proir works. Part of that might have to do with the length and increase in seriousness quotient.

But all in all, I feel he is an extremely promising writer. Here’s wishing him the best for the future.
