Free Cancer checkup-Lavasa Women's Drive:A Farce

The free cervical cancer checkup in Tata Memorial Hospital and Jaslok Hospital, much boasted of by TOI as a part of it’s Lavasa Women’s Drive in it’s articles and on the internet, is a big farce.

The prescribed and only way to register for this camp is to send an sms to 58888 SAYING "LWD checkup". No matter how many combinations of small and capital letters you try, the only response you get on sending the message is "Unknown Keyword". There is no number given to contact for registration and a call to Tata Memorial Hospital yielded no results.

There is a colorful site on the internet which claims that 300 women have gotten a free checkup till data(I wonder if the person who wrote the brief has a fondness for the number 300), but even submitting a query on the website failed to elicit a response from the so called well doers.

Undaunted, I and my relative went to Tata Memorial Hospital, only to be told that the only way to get a free check up is to send that sms, which of course, does not work. People there refused to be of any further help regarding the matter.

Gist of the matter: The only way to get a cancer checkup in Tata Memorial hospital is NOT FREE OF CHARGE and please do not believe everything TOI tells you.
