Its strange that I grew up reading this newspaper. But since I have stationed out of India I was glad to find they were online & later was very happy when I realized they had an e-paper & that too free. Alas ! I guess the excitement ends there.
Well I guess the ppl who visit the Times of India online are ppl who either staying abroad or the ppl who get some other paper back home & want to check out some news. This simple common sense has been lost by the websites editors. Amongst the 10-13 headlines that we have they will by the rule of the thumb have
9 dedicated to the bollywood stars 1 to the Hollywood or a scandal.
Wonder is it too difficult for them to comprehend that incase a person who is inclined to read gossip will visit the other websites. It vexed me when I used to see the crap about some one getting pregnant a headline. The fact of the matter is they don?t excel in their job doing that too. Swades the movie was being shot in NASA, Florida and there was no news about that.
Agreed we might not be sure as in whether swades might bag an Oscar, but still it?s by the same director who made Lagaan, something each Indian is proud off. The paradox this news was covered by some USA based news websites.
As for the Indian news, it?s being consistent in being late. An example..when Veerappan died. CNN had it as its headline, all the Indian website..rediffmail , hindustan times , etc had it. TOI online had no clue. But now that there is some mystery about Veerappan being killed two days before reported & had been tortured.... none of the news papers have it but TOI has a headline. I mean guys do u have no news to print or somehow ur flare for light news doesn?t seem to end?
In fact I see this with another news paper of their group Economic times. There is no seriousness in the paper they keep behaving like a psychological magazine talking about how ppl handle office pressure and the family life where both the partners are working. That kind of news in Economic times sucks.
There are many problems with TOI these days. But another one which seems like a sore thumb is they try to be judgmental & will infact try & give u a biased news.....which I really hate. I mean give us news in a neutral manner & then let the public decide what they want to comprehend out ot it.
In fact the better news websites to read about Indian news which I found was ndtv.com or asianage.com. I like both the websites precise ( after all we dont wanna be politicians )without too much kachra as pop-ups another big problem with TOI online.
