This piece of poetry, a long poem, by Tom Stearns Eliot(the creator of Prufock) is perhaps, with the exception of maybe Allen Ginsbergs Howl, the most complete single work of the 20th century. Its a poem about anything and everything, a text that has come to define modernist poetry. It incorporates the best of the Western as well as the Eastern and Oriental philosophies.
Divided into five sections, it features some of the most quoted lines of poetry ever, including but not limited to "April is the cruelest month". It is astounding how much work The Waste Land has inspired in its wake. One of my favorite songs, Baba ORiley by The Who is inspired by this poem, and it shows.
