Beautiful but dangerous too.

I have decided to write about Thekkady, a popular tourist centre in kerala because of yesterdays tragic boat accident on the Thekkady lake. This is not actually a review but its a general advice and I am concerned about the peoples safety who come to enjoy sightseeing in Thekkady.

As a keralite I must not say these, there is not much to see in thekkady as tourism board promise.Just some hills and animals(rare..excluding the monkeys)and the dangerous lake filled with large number of teak trees.{Thekkady got its name from ’thekku’ local name for teak tree}.Early Thekkady was a forest and the trees are covered as the Dam was bulit.

Actually the boat riding is thrilling, people can rent boats with two decks, single and even pedal boats and the rates are extremly cheap.People will be annoyed but naughty monkeys near by the ticket counter.I went to thekkady twice on bot the occasions monkeys came into our vehicle and stole our food. Its actually funny but dangerous too.My uncle got attacked buy a monkey once for not giving him food. You would be lucky if you see an animal on the lake shore.

I remember my first trip from school. when we was boating, we saw a black mass and thought it was an elephant. We anxiously wait to get nearer and in the end it turned out to be a huge rock.. Yesterdays, boat accident happened because of the same reason people saw a rare sight of animals drinking water and everybody rushed to one side of the boat.As a result boat flipped and precious lives(20-30)were lost. That was the first major accident there(i wonder why).KTDC (kerala tourism development cooperation)boats are pathetic and one must really take those ride on their own risk.

The Boat drivers are really efficient ant they know what they are doing. Apart from the boating everything’s fine there are good hotels nearby and also the KTDC guest house. The periyar NAtional park and tiger reserveis near and camping facilities are available there. Its one of the rare wildlife sanctuaries Were people can see tigers in natural habitat. CONCLUSION:Thekkady is good for a visit..but not twice
