Hi guys, I just watched Thirupachi today morning. Since I do not get movies here in theatres and the original print until 2-3 months after the release, I have no other way but to watch it in pirated print. The print was okay and better than the previous pirated releases but it missed the Kumbida Pona Deivam song only. Here is my review on the movie. It starts with the story of a brother-sister relationship and te brother Sivagiri (Vijay) gets his sister Karuppu (Mallika) married off to a man from Chennai. He goes to Chennai and is upset by the violence there and the rowdyism. He then takes up to the task of cleaning Chennai of its bad elements (after the cruel treatment meted out to the people there!). Here are my reviews on the performance Vijay: Ever improving star!! I cannot see a single flaw in his portrayal of Sivagiri. He was the character all through and did a perfect job. His fight sequences were a delight to watch. For a single fight sequence where he has manjal (yellow turmeric powder) smeared all over his face, I tried to imitate him after that fight was over. Such was the impact of his performance on me! He is just the best!! He is our next superhero after the Ultimate Superstar Rajnikanth!! He looked cool in that police getup and if he puts on a little bit weight, he would look perfect! Mallika: Another great performer of the movie. Her scenes with Vijay at the beginning were touching and very good. She seems to be a good performer in character roles. She can continue doing it. She should not imagine being a heroine. She does not have the look of a typical Tamil Cinema heroine! But she was a revelation in this movie. Trisha: What was this girl doing in this movie?? A total misfit!! She had nothing in the story and she had some songs with Vijay and some comic scenes but she doesnt pull off that comedy well since she has very little scope to perform. A total disappointment! Benjamin: This guy too has performed well given the role he had! Manoj K Jayan, Livingston: Bad selection for such small roles. Would have got some small time artistes! Kota Srinivas Rao: HAIL THE NEW COMEDIAN OF TAMIL CINEMA!!! The way he delivered each dialogue two two times, I was rolling in the ground with laughter and couldnt stop myself for more than half an hour!! A poor selection for a villian or a poor role! I dont know what Rajnikanth sees so great in Kota Srinivas Rao (Rajni praised Kota in the Saamy 125 days function) Music: Ranging from average to above average! Appan Panna song was good but others only mediocre. I think Vijay should not use Dhinas music in future. Mani Sharmas song was better. Picturisation, Cinematography: Very good cinematography with the highlight being that manjal powder fight sequence where the cameraman shows4 Vijays in a single frame (one Vijay fully visible with the rest of the 4 Vijays transparent!). Some picturisations of songs were good (I didnt watch the Kumbida Pona Deivam song!) Direction: Good in the second half, and above average in the first half too! Perarasu has indeed tried some new ways of treating a story which is as old as my dad!! The story moves fast in the second half, but the first half wasnt as bad as it was made out to be in this group! The comedy sequences were indeed good in the first half! Vijay: 15/10 Trisha: 3/10 Mallika: 10/10 Benjamin: 8/10 Others: 16/20 Music: 6/10 Kota Srinivas Rao: -4/10 Picturisation: 9/10 Direction: 7/10 TOTAL: 70/100 A good entertainer and a sure-hit for Vijay but for a few cliches in the performances of others especially Kota, THE COMEDIAN!!
