THE CULTURAL CAPITAL OF KERALA

THRISSUR is the central part of the state Kerala, which is the cultural capital of the state. Thrissur is famous for its cultural heritage . The land is also know as land of POORAM(means festival). The apex of the town is marked by " Vadakkunnathan temple". The city is famous for the festival THRISSUR POORAM, which is the pride of the city. The Pooram is famous for the elephants as well as the fireworks(Vedikettu). The city is also famous the scenic beauty. The famous water falls ATHIRAPALLY waterfalls is located 60 km away from the town in the Chalakudy taluk of Thrissur district. The falls is nick named as "Niagra of India". Two to three km away from the Athirapally falls, Vazhachal falls is located which is also a attractive place for tourist. The area is sourrounded by dense forest with richness in flora and fauna. As it is a forest area, the tourism is regulated by forest department. The highway that connects Tamil Nadu and Kerala is in the amidst of thick forest so the traffic is regulated between 6am to 6pm. This is one of the place, which Bird lovers should not miss, as it possess so many endemic and endangered avian species of Western Ghats.
