A classic tale of strategy, intrigue, betrayal and fate written by The Bard gets transformed by one of the greatest names cinema has had a privilege of showcasing, Kurosawa(director). Akira Kurosawa dishes out yet another Samurai classic; for the uninitiated.. do watch ALSO: The Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, Sanjuro, etc. Yes this movie was made sometime back, but it deserves no less than a buy. Toshiro Mifune stars as the Samurai counterpart of Macbeth. The story for those who missed out on the play, is about a general and his unique, bitter, twisted tryst with destiny. Trusted by the king, the general rises up in power, being also one of the bravest of the lot. But with the ascension in ranks, comes ambition, steeped in deceit and blood. The generals wife playing a pivotal part in all of this, the movie goes on to explore this generals fate, which had been foretold, albeit in a cunning package, by some seers?. For those who have seen Maqbool, well while Maqbool is Macbeth in an Indian underground setting, Throne of Blood is the equivalent in Samurai Japan. While the plot had enough of Shakespeare to give all the punch it needed, Kurosawa gives it his famed directorial perspective. The result; some moments that shall be etched forever in cinema history. If Sahekespeare could ever get better, this would be probably be it.
