MOVIE REVIEW : TI SADDHYA KAY KARTE ( U)
Satish Rajwade has consistently always given us unconventional love stories be it Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai, Eka Lagnachi Dusri Goshta and more. Hes back to give the audiences yet another romantic flick. He brings a new style of storytelling in Marathi cinema: a narration with a first-person perspective. We rarely see a film, which expresses the point of view of the narrator — his version of the story so well.
TSKK is a love story of Anurag and Tanvi which begins right from the school days. Anurag is all into Tanvi till the time he enters the big world of college where he is infatuated by fairytale girls and starts taking Tanvi for granted. This all happens in a flashback of a much older Anurag, which is presented in the form of a narration by Ankush Choudhary. This narration is top-notch and gives light and entertaining moments in the usual, cliché teenage romantic story and is certainly the cream of the film.
Thanks to the school and college love story, which has become an overdose in Marathi industry with films like BP, Timepass, Duniyadaari, Classmates, Sairat and many more, the film offers nothing new till the interval.
The actual movie begins post the interval. The real answer of Ti Saddhya Kay Karte? unfolds in the second half. What will happen in the lives of Anurag and Tanvi? Will it be the same old story or well get to see something new? The curiosity sustains right till the last scene of the film.
The climax for me is the best moment of the film but might suffer from a lot of subjectivity and may not be liked by everyone as it is handled with realism.
The love story is shown in three generations. The kids in the first gen have given an excellent performance and takes you down the memory lane. The mid gen portrayed by Abhinay and Aarya consumes most of the screen-time. The newbies have put in good efforts. But if they need to leave their mark, they need a lot of polishing of acting skills. Still what saves the film is the final installment, in terms of script, direction, acting and all.
One of the major drawback of the movie was casting. Though the actors are top-class, they do not maintain the consistency of the characters through the generations. The songs are extremely beautiful and it is the best soundtrack Ive heard in the recent few months.
In short, if you like sugary sweet love stories, you must treat yourself with this film. After an extremely dismal performance by Marathi industry post Ventilator and the effects of demonetisation, TSKK is a good movie to get you back in theatres.
Enjoy this nostalgia trip, which will make think about what does your first love do these days.
