Some superstitions and unhealthy trends of the film industry may be the reasons forthem to be silent through the years! I think some of the finest talents in malayalam film music were thus sidelined. I feel that the following men are some of those unlucky talents who were not rewarded for their efforts.
*1. Sharat.
It will be sad to know that this talented music director is famous in South India for his advertisement jingles and not for his melodious film music. I wondered after listening to his excellent songs from films likeKshanakkath, Pavitram, Sindoora rekha andOttayaal Pattaalam.
All the songs in the albumKshanakkath are excellent. EspeciallyAakashadeepam, Sallaapam kavitayaay and my favouriteAa raagam.
The readers can have a detailed review on the album by Mr.Krishnakumar on Mouthshut .com itself. I thank KK for his very useful review! As I am not technically good in reviewing music I request the readers to read that review also.Sindoorarekha has some fine semi-classical numbers one of which is sung by the MD himself. I liked the songsEnte sindoorarekha andPranadosmi. The songsSreeragamo.Taalamayanju gaanam apoornam(film: Pavitram) andMaaya manchalil( a soft melody from the Film: Ottayal Pattalam) are the other very good songs from the MD.
2. Jerry Amaldev
Most of the malayalees like to hum the songsaayiram kannumaay kaattirunnu, kiliye kiliye naruten mozhiye(Nokketta doorattu kannum nattu), manjil virinja poove, manjanikkombil(Manjil virinja pookkal) and
aalorungi(Ente mamattikkutty ammakku).but sadly they do not know who composed them. It is the sad story of Jerry Amaldev .who started his career in theschool of maesteros like Naushad and Salil Chaudhury in Bombay! He was never recognized by the public and the big names of the industry. He made a comeback through the 1995-filmNo1.Snehateeram Bangalore North. The film was average but the music was very good. Especially the songstilangum tinkale andpon ambilippottum thottu were hits. After listening to these songs you wont believe that he is now confined his path only into christian devotional music!
His songs are melodious, deep in orchestration and above all .original!
*3. Perumbavoor G. Ravindranath.
As one of the main contributors of the Malayalam light music genre, Ravindranath is well-known. But his name went unnoticed as far as his film music career is concerned. The songsAarohanathil, Eto varnna swapnam pole vannoo neeyen salabhamefrom the filmChitrashalabham andPerariyattoru nombarathe fromSneham are excellent songs. His songs carry classical correctness and emotional appeal within the context.
In this era of inconsistent and unadventurous MDs and their illogical compositions, these people are no more wanted by the malayalam industry. It is sad.
