How to change baby diapers! - Quick and easy

Recent I became father and one of my worst nightmares was how to clean her poo and change her diaper without end up taking bath atleast 6 times a day(that much they poo.

But the moment I was called out of OT by head nurse "Wherez the father?" and she handed me sleeping red-pink faced beauty wrapped well in a sterile white cotton cloth, eyes closed and breating easy. I somehow hugged her well and she just snuggled herself to me.

My world changed and everything was colored in baby pink. somehow my baby helped me overcome my worst fear. Now the second part for which this review is written. I saw nurse changing diapers to my newborn whom I was verymuch afraid to handle as she was too soft and vulnerable to infection.

This is what I was albe to learn and now do this work faster then my wife.  :-D General advice - keep one small corner table with 2 or 3 slots for baby oil/diaper/cotton/medicine etc next to baby cot or your bed.

Keep few things handy with you while changing diapers.

1.Jug of warm water for washing off any poo which is spreading due to the very nature of diaper.

  1. Big roll of cotton(this is very effective in cleaning.

  2. Roll of wipes or soft tissues(Good toilet roll will also do, just make sure you are using something with less or no chlorine)

  3. New diaper or terry diaper.

  4. Plastic/rubber sheet to protect bed/cot

  5. Baby powder

Carefully place baby on the plastic/rubber sheet and remove the fastening felt or untie the knot of terry diaper(do not remove the diaper just yet). Keep talking to baby as this comforts him/her. DO IGNORE HIS/HER CRYING FOR THE TIME BEING.

Hold both ankles of baby in one hand and gently pull the lower body off the bed/cot and open the diaper, now fold the diaper from the bottom upwards so that your baby’s poo is covered and s/he is resting on cleaner part of diaper.

Do not get scared by finding greenish or blackish stuff there especially if your baby is less than 2 weeks old, its called zirconium which your baby must have gathered in the system while spending time in mothers womb. It will gradually clear out.

Take clean wipes or cotton and clean the excreta from his/her gentiles downwards, this is especially necessary if its a baby girl, as the bacteria from her excreta might enter her Vag*na and cause an infection.

Now take small piece of cotton and dip in warm water(warm water is comforting to baby, keep talking to baby) and starting cleaning the feces which might have dried while dry cleaning or slightly harder to remove with dry wiping. Change the cotton once it becomes dirty, start with new cotton dipped in water.

Final wiping will give you clean cotton without any color coming on it(yellow / brown / greenish). Finally dry your baby with tissue or toilet roll, you can lift your baby’s lower back using the same ankle hold as described previously.

Carefully apply powder on your baby’s bum and thigh joint, do not apply anything on gentiles / anus.Take a fresh diaper and open it / spread it. gently lift your baby’s back with ankle hold and slid past his/her bottom, fasten the fastening wrap or tie the knot.

Wrap the baby back in the cloths s/he was in, and place the blanket back. Your baby is happiest in warm and snugly place. Its done, do not forget to remove the jug with water, otherwise you will only end up mopping the wet floor.:-)

Happy cleaning for you all.
