" Rekha. Dress up quickly, we are getting late, it’s a 6 pm Show and it’s 5 30 already!" Says Amit, as he is wearing his shoes and getting the Car keys from the table. It’s a Friday Night and this newly wed couple is ready to watch another BOLLYWOOD MOVIE.
I guess nothing much will change in the pattern of families going to watch the movie, and if it is preplanned, somebody surely is late in getting ready. I mean it happened during my dads time, happening in my time too, of course there was a generation in between that too, that of who are in late thirties, but it all remains the same.
I know the initial part of this So called review is just not leading us anywhere, but ironically, let’s get to the point.
Bolloywood, or hindi cinema has really made life so much more refreshing, always. And I Mean it.
During the times of hardships, nehru’s era, wars, revolutions, worldcups, asiads, and poverty, illness, and so many of these day to day life things, which happen to us, we can relate to Bollywood movies.
Mostly in Bad ways, but surely in good ways too.
I still remember, I used to wait for Sunday evenings, on my black and white TV which we owned, and nearly ours was the only house in the whole of locality, and it would be crowded for this Sunday night. AH, no no, not for some function, but of course for a HINDI MOVie which would be Shown on DOOR DARSHAN.
And I would be more than Super excited.
AS a Kid 5-6 yr old I would always wonder at the energy of the stars and heroes and heroines and their dress changing capabilities and their super natural ways to fight and magic..it was all wonderful and fascinating and of course refreshing.
I remember trying to paint my face red to look like heroes when they would get angry or beaten up in the scenes.
Influences we have from the movie so dearly mark in our persona too.
I mean kids always want to be like specially the guy kids Dharmendra, Mithun, Sunny, Sanjay dutt, etc these action heroes who could muster any of the villain with ease.
I remember one of the movie of vinod mehraa where he was getting beaten up by the villain, I guess he was DANny, I mean everybody sitting besides me was like, " we Need amitabh or dharmendra to beat up DANNY this mehras and khannas cant do it."
I would be like hmm, ok fine now I know where and how to begin.
But seriously, dont we now too in many ways try to be like our Bollywood counterparts.
Many movies are from real life characters and many of them actually so powerfully influence us.
Movie making is surely an art so widely done and celebrated and it takes lot of pain from so many people to make a MOVIE. but the result which comes out makes an 1000 Times bigger impact in the way it reaches out to so many people.
Going to theater and watching and having a laugh about it really takes so much pressure of us , if not always , but for some time at least. Some intense movies make us realize we need to really brush up and tighten up and really move ahead and of course some other movies are so fully masala which are paisa wasool entertainers.
And I am writing it all in context of bollywood movies is because as an Indian even though I have been grown up abroad and have known things which are so non filmy too, I am so amazed by the FILMY world.
The starry tantrums, and attitude and fun we have listening to the gossips and news and events of the stars, heroes and heroines.
Bollywood Movie itself can be made into a Movie. It plays so hard on us, it keeps floating with us, the impact never dies, and it is always refreshing.
We as individuals or groups, or family, we know BOLLYWOOD movies are so integral part of our lives and will remain even when we have SONY, STAR, ZEE TVS trying to cover up, and other HOLLYWOOD movies coming up, and all bad publicity coming up, or whatever coming up, we as fans of Bollywood movies will never give up, we will make sure it will continue to surge ahead always.
Of course too even why would be replace it with anything else is still a question unanswered? but I mean Do we need to do that? or better just shout on our family members for getting late for the SHOW?
I would prefer the later part, I love to fight u SEE ;)
