Welcome to planet BOB!

3043, the human race is scattered throughout the universe in scavenger colonies. The Earth, it was destroyed in 3028 by the Drej (nasty race of beings made of pure energy). The Drej are intent on the total destruction of mankind and are hunting for mankind’s last chance.. The Titan. Enter a 19-year-old, named Cale Tucker. Cale’s father put him in the care of his alien friend; Tek just before the Earth was destroyed. Cale’s father, Professor Sam Tucker knew of the Drej and their plans to destroy the human race. Prof. Tucker was working on a project called The Titan, which would somehow be the saviour of mankind. Cale left in a shuttle with Tek and other survivors, whilst his father left in The Titan. The Titan wasn’t completed at the time, but was functional enough to be taken into deep space where it could be hidden from the Drej.

Cale now has the task of finding The Titan & bringing the remains of mankind together to start over again. The Drej are hunting for Cale & The Titan. There are many dangers ahead in the search for The Titan and Cale must face them all and win! He has the help of Tek, Korso, Akira, Gune & a few others but they will have to defeat The Drej before they can reunite the remains of humanity. Can they succeed? Will they succeed? You’ll have to watch the film to find out, as I’m not saying any more about the plot and what happens!

Titan AE (After Earth) is an excellent computer animated film that’s suitable for virtually the whole family, but kids under 7 may not understand or enjoy it as much as those a little older. The story has all the elements in it … love, hate, fun, laughter, betrayal and vengeance. The graphics are outstanding and the sound tracks are brilliant. You’ll also see some amazing special effects that look totally real. The plot may not be that original, but it’s still good and will keep you watching till the end. Cast …. Young Cale … Alex D. Linz (never heard of him before) Teenage Cale … Matt Damon (heard of him .. somewhere) Akira … Drew Barrymore (no, not daughter of Michael!) Gune … John Leguizamino (what a name!) Preed … Nathan Lane (sounds familiar) Stith … Janeane Garofalo (new to me) Sam Tucker … Ron Perlman (sounds familiar) Korso … Ben Pullman (sort of famous) Tek … Tone Loc (another one of those names!) There may not be that many familiar big names in the film, but they certainly do a brilliant job with their voice talents! They were perfect for the parts that they lend their voices to. Sound tracks. The film is brimming full of energetic music & songs, which really add an awful lot to the film.

As you can see from the list of artists (below), there’s some big bands playing their hearts out for this film & they did a great job! There’s electricity all the way through the film and you should really enjoy every moment of it. ‘Cosmic castaway’ performed by ’Electrasay’. ’Everything under the stars’ performed by ’Fun Lovin’ Criminals’. ’Everybody’s going to the moon’ performed by ‘Jamiraquai’. ‘The end is over’ performed by ‘Powerman 5000’. ‘Down to Earth’ performed by ‘Luscious Jackson’. ‘Renegade survivor’ performed by ‘Splashdown’. ‘It’s my turn to fly’ performed by ‘The Urge’. ‘Like lovers (holding out)’ performed by ‘Texas’. ‘Over my head’ performed by ‘Lit’. ‘Not quite paradise’ performed by ‘Bliss’. All of the songs are truly excellent and deserve chart success! Some of the bands are not that well know (to me anyway!), but others are big names. My kids loved the different songs and they had my feet tapping away to the beats. Special Features. Like most DVDs, there’s loads of special features on the disc and they’re well worth taking the time to examine and enjoy. Here’s a quick run down of the special features for you. Director’s commentary. … Here’s where the director gives his comments on the film and the making of it. This part gives you a real insight into the minds of those that make the movies.

Making of. … Here’s the behind the scenes part of the film where you find out just how the film was made and who did what. I always find this bit very interesting and probably my favourite feature .. besides the actual film! (There were over 200 artists who worked on the film to produce the brilliant artwork!) Music Video. … Over my head. Here’s the video of this song performed by ‘Lit’. The video’s great and really good fun to watch! .. Enjoy! Deleted scenes. … The scenes that didn’t make it into the film for one reason or another. You’ll see some scenes that were never actually finished off. The scenes here give you more of an insight into how they drew the pictures. Trailers & TV spots. … The bits that were shown in the flicks & on TV to get your attention & get you to watch the film. Photo gallery. … This is another of my favourites and a big hit with my kids (especially the twins, who love art!). There’s loads of the original artwork for you to see here in all their glory. Some of them are raw, but they are all brilliant & are a credit to the various artists who drew them!

Lastly, there’s going to be a game based on the film. They say that it will be out some time soon, but I hope that it won’t be a load of rubbish like when they tried to cash in on Independence Day! That game was totally rubbish and a real waste of money. Then again it could (fingers crossed!) be good. We’ll have to wait & see. Conclusion. … Titan AE is a truly great-animated film that the vast majority of people will probably enjoy. Younger kids may not enjoy it as much as those slightly older, but then again .. You never know! It’s priced at £16.99 (Woolworth’s), but you may pick it up cheaper than that if you shop around. It’s rated PG, but that’s only because of the violence in the film. There’s no sex scenes & no bad language! It’s just a good film that my kids & I thoroughly enjoyed watching. Thanks for your time & for reading my long-winded op! ………….. Tom
