There was a time in my life where I would cringe at the thought of actually watching something educational... Ok.. I admit that I sometime still DO cringe... TLC is an exception. Perhaps Im getting older, wiser, more responsible as an adult in general... or more than likely, TLC has just learned how to reach out to the low brow crowd to entertain us with an exciting array of new shows and programs.
The Learning Channel has topics ranging from motherhood (A Baby Story - sure to make any wanna be mother bawl incessantly) to home decorating (Trading Spaces - Two neighbors switch houses and redecorate a room for each other in 2 days with only $1000. Im quite addicted to this show; I think its because Im longing to see the day when one of the neighbors becomes violently angry over what was done to their room, and starts a fist fight. Maybe thats just the hockey fan in me. Who knows. lol)
I find myself glued to all of these stories during the day, and when my honey comes home from work, I dont even have to change the channel, because theres always some show about cops chasing idiotic drivers down the wrong side of the interstate, or the worlds dumbest criminals, etc.
Ok... so it may BE low brow... and perhaps it isnt as educational as the History Channel where we can find out what method King Tut used to clip his toenails, but TLC has got something that most dont have. The ability to keep me focused on my tv hoping to learn something that I might actually use.
This isnt a perfect world, though. I havent been totally transformed into a brainiac with knowledge oozing from my ears about everything, and you can bet that when FRIENDS comes on, Im grabbing that remote. But all in all, I think this channel is excellent.
