Welcome to Mars

This is, in my opinion, Arnie’s best film ever. Set mainly on Mars, this movie begins with Arnie’s character Quaid on Earth and suffering from recurrent dreams. He dreams that he is a secret agent and that the population of Mars is being held to ransom over air supplies by an evil industrialist by the name of Cohaagen. He is on the side of the freedom fighters against Cohaagen in his dreams, but he soon comes to believe that they are reality and heads for Mars to find out. What follows is a gripping action thriller set on Mars with great special effects and a high gore count.

Some of the special effects are just revolting although as they are a major part of the appeal of the movie I wil not reveal any here as an example. Schwarzenneger plays his part well, although in his usual practised style that he has been doing for the past however many years. So does Sharon Stone who plays his wife back on Earth, although neither can be said to put in Oscar winning performances by any stretch of the imagination. However, this is never the point of this type of movie, just to entertain and that it will. There is an excellent storyline here with lots of twists and turns that will keep you guessing at least throughout the early part of the movie if not the latter. I would recommend this to fans of Sci-fi and action movies. This is very violent but definitely not the usual fare produced by Arnie and is a great way to while away an evening.
