No problem device - value for money

Product - TP-Link Wireless N ADSL2 + Modem Router

Model - TD-W895ND

Color - White

I have a BSNL landline with broadband connection at home. Earlier, I used to rent the BSNL’s type1 (non-wireless) modem. To the modem, I used to connect a wireless router for internet connectivity in all rooms. The experience was far from satisfactory because I used to face frequent drop in connection & was having to power Off and On both the devices whenever the connection got dropped. Then one day the BSNL’s modem conked off & I had to return it back. They’ve  stopped renting out these ADSL modems these days (at least in my area) forcing me to purchase one for myself.

I am happy that I went for this TP-Link Modem cum Router. After going through some reviews I decided to go for either D-Link or TP-Link (considering that I don’t want to spend a fortune on it and that it is only for home use and that too for a small house). I got a cheaper deal in a local shop than what was available on the internet on say dependable sites like flipkart. It has been close to 6 months now that I’ve been using it and so far I’ve not faced any issues.

To be completely honest, there is one problem though with one of my laptops (after installation of Windows 8 beta) wherein it doesn’t connect if any other device (like tablet or one of my other laptops) is already connected to the same network. I think this has to do with the Wireless card drivers on my laptop especially because of the Windows 8 update. None of my other devices like laptops, iPad or smart phones have this problem. Just that I’ve been too lazy to fix the problem by re-installing the drivers.

In general it has been working very well, giving seamless connectivity for all my wi-fii devices. I don’t have to turn it off at any regular intervals (although I do turn it off at night whenever I remember to, which is not every night). It doesn’t seem to heat up or anything of that sort. Even after turning the power Off and when I turn it back On, it boots up pretty fast and all devices also connect pretty well. The speed is good (as good as my BSNL connection, which for me luckily has been quite satisfactory, no buffering of youtube videos or anything). The range is also good it seems, with almost full range (at times there is drop in a stick in some other rooms) in other rooms as well. I don’t have a big house to comment too much on the range though. Simultaneous use of multiple devices also doesn’t seem to have any major impact on bandwidth, which is a good testimony to my decent BSNL connection.

All-in-all I’m pretty satisfied with this buy and would certainly recommend this for light home use.
