It is a tale of a cross-section of people caught up in the Traffic of life. Hey guys, if you havent seen Traffic then you are missing out on something Special. And yeah, this movie is for those who consider life an experience worth experiencing in the Real sense of the word. I am sure you know what I mean!
I am sure you couldnt have ignored the heavy duty traffic on roads every day. It irritates, it provokes aggression and it delays too. In more cases than one everyone is interested in reaching their destination as soon as possible. Nobody is really interested in anybody else. They are interested in themselves, their families, their near-n-dear ones and their vocation.
Director Steven Soderbergh, smartly utilises personal and professional lives of several individuals. Now, these individuals have one thing in common and that is the fact that they are affected by the menace of Drugs in one way or the other. But, otherwise, they just sneak into each others lives rather disinterestedly. Just imagine Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones dont even exchange pleasantries and still you are far from disappointed. The beauty lies not in knowing but in not knowing. And thats where Traffic succeeds hugely.
The story is apparently about the disease called Drugs. But, it is basically a human tale, a human interpretation of various situations. And how helpless a father(the highest man in USA responsible for Drug eradication)
becomes when he realises that his own daughter is heavily ensnared in its web too. There are various other human predicaments which strike you with their simplicity, selfishness, basic needs, love, gratitude, treachery, deceit, hatred, racism and more.
The camerawork is spellbinding, the use of alternating colours is thoughtful, editing is just about perfect, performances are consistently neat and whats more one comes out of the theatre satiated.
Dont miss Traffic!. It is a movie you shall refer to when you look back at todays life. I wouldnt say: Enjoy. I would say: Experience!!
