Katrina is the name of the hurricane that has spread over 20, 000 square miles in Florida, Tennessee and Mississippi. I was a category 5 hurricane that also had tornados and torrential rain. The pictures I have seen on my TV look like the ones I saw after the Asian tsunami.
Biloxi, Tennessee and New Orleans, Mississippi are covered in water that has dead bodies, the results of people going to the bathroom in the water, pets and garbage floating on it. Below the water are snakes and crocodiles.
The warnings were given for the people to leave their homes and go to places that would be safe. People who had cars or trucks left but the poor people, (about 28 %), were trapped and had to stay.
Some were allowed into the New Orleans Saints Super Dome. Then part of the roof collapsed. The young men had brought enough beer to have a party. At night they became dangerous because they all had guns.
Stores were looted, females were raped and the hospitals were overflowing with sick people.
At this time of the year it is very hot and muggy, and the mosquitos are huge. There is a change that people are going to get sick from the bad water or the mosquito bites.
The police and National Guard cant communicate because the land line phones, cell phones and walkie-talkies arent working.
At this time no one knows how many people are dead but they know at least 10, 000 are missing.
There are children without their families, sons and daughters without their parents and old people sitting on top of their roofs with the water almost up to the top of the house.
Over 50 billion dollars of property has been lost in New Orleans. The Government of the United States has sent medical teams, ships, rescued people with helicopters and dropped food and water from planes.
The situation is overwhelming and they cant keep up with the needs of the stranded people. The Mayor of the city has send out an SOS for help. Canada is sending our Disaster Teams from Victoria, Vancouver and Edmonton.
This is the first time the United States citizens have been refugees. I have watched how they have learned to cope with this dire situation. Store owners are giving out food, water and ice for free. Yet this is not enough because there has been looting in broad day light, setting fires to store and homes and New Orleans is in a state of anarchy.
In Florida where two MouthShut members, Abababbey/Abbey and meleahk1/Leah, I have heard from them telling me the are survivors.
Abababbey/Abbey has a daughter who lived in New Orleans. She just hear today that she made it out of the city and has lost everything. She went to the Target Shop and bought some basic things.
I have cousins who live in Biloxi. I finally reached them and they are also safe and on the way to Chicago to stay with one of their children.
The Mayor of New Orleans who is on an Island stranded with her assistance says it will take at least 5 years to re-build what ever they can, but New Orleans will never be the same.
The only thing that any one can do is send money to the American Red Cross. Ive sent mine. If everyone who reads this would send one dollar to the Red Cross it would help a lot.
Thank you for reading my review.
