Trane Split AC 1.5 Ton

Being a new brand, I was reluctant to invest in Trane.

But their 5-year comprehensive warranty offer made me take the plunge and I purchased a 1.5 ton HW1 series 3-star model 2 months back. The AC is probably just like any other, a bit on the expensive side too, but what’s really nice about this brand is the awesome remote control. It has a big colourful display that displays three kinds of temperatures on the remote itself - indoor, outdoor and the set temperature.

When it was really hot in Delhi, we kept reaching out for the remote only to check how hot it was outside. The other thing we really liked was the quality of installation.

The team who came to install the AC was very professional and had many unique tools I haven’t seen earlier.

The AC also has a feature called Trane Mode(I think most ACs have this auto mode these days) that calculates what’s the ideal set temperature. It is able to do so because of a temperature sensor on the outdoor unit that helps determine the right set-point. In fact, even the Trane India website has a nice widget that tells you at what temperature you should set your AC at. The AC is new, cooling is nice and quick therefore. The irritating bit is waking up the remote.

Since it has a colour display I guess it’s programmed to go off to sleep like computers do. You have to wake it up therefore to operate the AC. I find tapping the buttons on the remote twice a bit inconvenient. Even on turning the AC on, the remote takes about 15 secs before it is able to connect to the AC indoor unit. This is because Trane uses some wireless technology for the devices to talk to each other. It’s like Wi-Fi. You don’t have to point the remote towards the AC. We’ve learned to live with this inconvenience however.
