Awesome baby!! That’s how I would like to describe this channel & its contents.
Somebody has rightly said that traveling a mile is as good as reading a book .The experience gained by traveling enriches and enlivens your soul and spirits in a mysterious way. And of course you are left with the fond memories of this experience to cherish forever. And that’s what this channel is all about.
This channel is a treat for all ardent travel enthusiasts of my sort.
There was a show called “Lonely Planet” which used to be aired on Discovery channel some 5 yrs back which has now been re-christened as “Globe Trekker” on Travel & Living. I was studying Psychology back then & I wrote to Justine Shaprio who’s the anchor and traveler on the show requesting her to taken me on with her & that I’m ready to work even without getting paid ! ! Though I’m still awaiting her reply, I sometimes wonder why do I have a 9 to 6 job?? (Actually make that 9 to 8). I really really crave to be like her & travel every nook and corner of the globe (from the tall & firm standing mountains to the deepest of oceans where colorful fishes swim in the waters shining like mirror, the wildest of night life to the serene beauty of lush green islands, and sometimes ancient monuments standing upright against the test of times). Ian Wright another traveler on the show gives it a shade of humor, he is eager to do all sorts of weird things while traveling, he goes crazy at the site of water bodies & takes a plunge only to find the ultimate satisfying experience of cool / sometimes hot waters.
But mind you, this is not one of those luxuries struck dream tour with all the conveniences of a five star hotel. You are in for a nerve wrecking globe tour where everything from staying in a dingy guest house, to mosquito bites to early morning rising from the bed to mountain climbing to hitch-hiking & even tasting some yucky stuff like red ant water (which tastes like lemonade or so do they say ??) & many more such exciting experiences are in store.
Although “Globe Trekker” is my favorite show on this channel, the other interesting shows are –
Planet Food & A cook’s tour – for foodies
Thirsty traveler – for wine lovers
Destinations – for travel crazy
American Chopper – for bikers (I personally am not a great admirer of this show but guys particularly seem to like this, my brother too watches it with great interest)
Things I hate about you – interesting show where couples are supposed to tape their partners’ video of their most irritating acts, & then the jury on the show decides who is more irritating.
The channel is fun packed and the quality of the shows is unadulterated. It’s a wonderful pastime especially when I’m at home on weekends and gives me a boost. It actually is platter of various cultures, traditions, cuisines, people and personas, nature, fun and frolic.
So if you really want to refresh yourselves and are looking for some quality entertainment, tune in to this channel & you won’t be disappointed.
