ANTI-HERO:Mere Ghanv itani asanise nahi bharate
Thought of writing this one after criminals M2M. Cousin2: The title means My wounds dont heal that easily!
Amitabh in Mukaddar Ka Sikandar learns to live with sorrows. He knows he cant get rid of them, he can make others happy but not him. Now in Trishul, Amitabh (Vijay) wants to get even with his father who betrayed his mother to marry a rich builders daughter. He wants to get even with the people who insult his father, a little strange given he also hates him but cant see others insult him.
This movie shows every person stuck or sort of sandwiched in two things except only Wahida Rehmans & Sanjeevs wifes (Sachdev?) & hence the name Trishul as per the able director/producer. Salim/Jaaved & Yash Chopra have teamed up for this all time great Amitabh classic.
THE PLOT
Sanjeev Kumar is in love with Wahida Rehman & wants to marry her. She is from a poor sort of background with no one in this world. His mother on the other hand wants him to marry the builders only daughter who trust him & sees him as his successor. The mother succeeds to brainwash Sanjeev. Wahida though pregnant leaves his life & does all the hard-work it takes to raise him (all this part handled in 10-12 minutes with 2 songs). The son (Amitabh) is now 25 & after the death of his mother goes to Mumbai to get even with his father. He enters in builders profession by rather helping Sanjeev to get rid of goons from his land etc. He grows in stature & in a position to challenge Sanjeev. He tries to mess Shashis relationship with Hema (Sanjeevs son), tries to help Poonam (step-sister) marry Sachin, a Hindi movie typical non-wealthy lover!:)
SCREENPLAY-DIALOGS-CHARACTERIZATION
The screenplay is perfect. Amitabhs entry is handled in a very simple yet with a grand impact. Same with Shashi Kapoor & his overall character. Powerful dialogs is the key to effectiveness of the movie. The dialogs like Jisane Apani maa ko 25 saal jalate huwe dekha hain use aag se kya dar & Aur ek baat main aapako bata dun Mr. R.K Gupta: Mere paas na apane baap-jada ki kamai hain aur nahi muzhe chahiye..mere paas to kuchh hain to sirf apane maa ka aashirwaad make this movie what it is.
There is always certain tension that comes along with several scenes or characters but it never crosses a limit unless they want it & that is what I call a powerful screenplay/direction. Every character has their own personality in the movie.
The stereotypes of a Hindi movie Mother/Father or even a villain is avoided & they come across as real life professionals you get to see in everyday life. All the characters are highly consistent in the movie & not once they seem to cross their written script on intended behavior, very hard thing to do when you got big-wigs like Amitabh, Shashi, Rakhi, Hema & Sanjeev in the same movie. The difference in characters is shown with subtlety where Amitabh dances with Hema on a slow tune but as soon as Shashi joins he asks the band to change it to a faster one!
The fight scenes in the initial part are good; fight-master Shetty has done good job in both direction & acting! Amitabh takes an ambulance with him for the goons he is planning to beat-up! A different touch which was applauded by public then.
THE ACTING
Amitabh!!! Again, after Sikandar there cant be a better person for his role. Characters were written for Dilip Kumar & same is the case with Amitabh. He always keeps a certain hurt feeling on his face & carries it throughout. After Parwana & Deewar he plays the Anti-Hero again to perfection. Here he fights his own people. He tries to play around with Shashi & Hemas relationship & almost takes away. He deceives Sanjeev using his employee to know the prices of tenders but exposes him in order to save Rakhis honor. His anger towards Sanjeev is expressed in a subtle yet definitive dialogs Kuchh baate paise se nahi toli jaati; Mere Ghanv itane jaldi nahi bharate or Lagata hain maine aapki dukhati ras par hath rakh diya hain
The first time he goes to meet Sanjeev, checkout his expressions when he sees his father for the first time..they are worth a million dollar & more. He in my opinion betters what Dilip K has done with his brilliant performances. Again, his expressions when Shahi K knows about the keys taken by him. His exchanges when his mother is in the last few moments is just extra-ordinary yet not done to create a proof of how great an actor he is. I think at times Dilip Kumar is guilty of (a little though) overdoing some stuff.
Across the India, People used to stand up in theatres with great applause to welcome their favorite BACHCHAN! The same people made him prisoner of his own image!:) These were the days when 2-3 year old children used to cry foul upon showing Raj Babbars movie after promised a Bachchan movie!! Amazing popularity among all the sections of society/masses.
Shashi Kapoors lively & happy-go-lucky display highlights & also complements Amitabh performance more. He has done a great job with the burden or proving anything. He is a master in that respect. It was a joke then that Amitabh has a bunch of signed agreements from Shashi & Amitabh signs Shashi for every movie he gets.
Rakhi is VERY GOOD & has given a memorable performance. It is not easy to be remembered when you work with Big B. Sanjeev Kumar is a great actor anyways & there are no surprises. There are quite a few scenes with Amitabh & together they have taken them to a different level altogether. Some great dialogs are delivered with unbelievable ease. Hema looks gorgeous & acts well as usual! She comes across well as a confident working/career woman at a high post.
THE MUSIC
All the songs are catchy & the initial song is a classic with great shayari. Apaki meheki hui Julphonko kehete hain ghata, apaaki madabhari ankhon ko kanwal kehete hain. Very well sung by Lata & Yesudas. The song that covers raising up the kid part of the movie is Tu mere saath rahega munne, taaki tu jaan sake is so so. Shashi/Hemas song performed by Lata-Kishore Kehete darati ho, Dil main marati ho, Jan-e-man tum kamal karati ho is my personal favorite. The initial sweet part Aaj Hum Ishq ka ijahaar kare to kya ho etc doesnt make it to the movie & is only in the Audio CD/Tape.
Sachin/Poonams song sung by Nitin Mukesh & Lata is sweet, Latas voice little too mature for 17 year old Poonam! Babuji Babuji gam gam, Kishiki kishiki Kum Kum This is Poonam Dillons first movie. Sachin acts in his typical manner & he is a good natural dancer.
Star cast does a good display in Muhabbat bade kaam ki cheej hain. The initial part Har taraf husna hain jawani hain is great shayari. Kishore is lively so is Lata & Yasudas is good but not a fit for Bachchan (my opinion). Similarly Shashi-Hemas song is given to relax the public & for Bidi-kaadi! :) Ho kabhi kase maini na tode, Kabhi jeete jeena chhode jo ho yaar apana
