Tum Bin
Tum Bin Jiya Jaaye Kaise
Kaise Jiya Jaaye Tum Bin
Sadiyon Se Lambi Hain Raatein
Sadiyon Se Lambe Huye Din
Aa Jaavo Lautkar Tum
Yeh Dil Keh Raha Hain
Phir
Shame-e-Tanhayee Jaagi
Phir Yaad Tum Aa Rahe Ho
Phir Jaan Nikalne Lagi
Phir Mujhko Tadpa Rahe Ho
Iss Dil Mein Yaadon Ke Mele Hain
Tum Bin Bahut Hum Akele Hain
Aa Jaavo Lautkar Tum
Yeh Dil Keh Raha Hain...//
This has to be one of the best romantic poems/songs in recent times.
Not only this song, but the movie itself is unique in many ways.
’’Tum Bin’’ is a directorial debut attempt by Anubhav Sinha sometime in 2001.
This movie proved that a good love story backed with decent scenes and decent performances can still draw audience to the theatres or at least will force to buy DVDs/CDs/Cassettes as I did;-). Enjoyed it watching with jam packed audience in Delhi and also own a DVD to watch it whenever am in the mood of, which happens to be more often.
’’Tum Bin’’(TB) is a story of Piya and three of her lovers. You can say, it goes a step ahead of Love Triangle, it’s a Love Quadrangle.
Shekhar(Priyanshu) is a successful business professional residing in Mumbai after having lost his parents in a road accident. The movie starts with his close friend from Canada(a sardar) visiting him to attend a function where Shekhar is going to be presented an award. In this party, he comes across Amar(Rakesh), an NRI returning back the same night to Canada to marry his beloved Piya (Sandali Sinha). During the conversation, Amar bets(invites) to see Shekhar in Canada (for some reason, may he likes his qualifications).
The story takes a first of its many turns with the accidentental death of Amar that same night by Shekhar’s vehicle which results in the closure of Amar’s role(Amar dies).
Being in a state of shock, Shekhar runs away from the scene thanks to his sardar friend. Then follows, Shekhar’s feeling of guilt which leads his journey to Canada to meet Amar’s family to explain the truth and subsequently comes across Piya(Amar’s would-be, which could not be).
During the course of reviving Amar’s business alongwith Piya, Amar and Piya start liking each other but both miserably fail to express their love. Amar, as he is afraid that Piya might refuse him(he claims to be Amar’s friend) if she comes to know the reality and Piya as she still is in the hangover of Amar ;-).
Another turn to the story added when Abhigyan(Himanshu Malik), another succesful, busy, rich businessman falls for Piya.
In order to know who is that ’’Tum’’ in the ’’Tum Bin’’ without which Piya cannot spend the rest of life, bring home a DVD/CD/Cassette and watch it, find it.
The faith that Anubhav Sinha showed in the newcomers and that too Models who are usually not good at acting in movies is commendable.
Priyanshu Chatterjee and Sandali Sinha have pretty good faces with not so bad acting abilities which fetched them good roles in ’’Pinjar’’ later. Both of them were equally compatible with the bigwigs there too.
The other two male leads were also good for their part. Dina Pathak and Vikram Gokhale have nothing much to perform but they did their job well as family members alongwith Amar’s sister. Vikram Gokhale is a much better performer for such roles.
The best aspects of ’’Tum Bin’’ are the way story evolves at every juncture and the way the songs are picturised. The emphasis on song picturisation is due to the fact that almost every desi love story has a better impact with the songs in the movie.
It is rare that a Hindi movie producer could afford to use a song for the titles and another for the credits with new comers including the banner. In this case, luckily both these songs are reasonably good.
’’Tumhare Siva Hum naa Chahat Karenge
Ke Jab Jiyenge Mohabbat Karenge’’, this introductory song is soothing with some entertainig tabla beats and Sameer style https://lyrics.
’’Thoda Daaru Vich Pyaar Mila Dey’’ is a foot tapping number by Stereo Nation.
’’Kuch Roop Uska Mehka, Kuch Dil Bhi Mera Behka’’ for Aman is a ’’chalta hain’’ song.
’’Tum Bin Jiya Jaaye Kaise’’ is a classic ’’dard bhara’’ one sung by Chitra. Have
written about this song in my review on Chitra.
The choreography is decent too taking care that Models do not look original when trying to imitate like Govinda or Mithun. Even Sandali Sinha has, at the most, the ’North Indian Shaadi waale Thumke’ in ’’Choti Choti Raatein Lambi Ho Jaati Hain’’.
Nikhil Vinay’s music can be likened by one and all and which was one of the positive aspects for this movie very much like any other Bollywood movie. The everlasting effect of Violin as used in this movie is very rarely seen in Bollywood music unlike in South Indian Movies.
On the flip side, there is a failed attempt of humour in between the serious mood of the film.
But it sure is recommended for all those movie goers who enjoy watching the love triangles/quadrangles with an unseen but self experienced intensity, not a show off sort.
P.S. Wish we had more sincere inspectors like the one in this movie from Mumbai.
