I was in my first year college, when my mom said she would buy a two wheeler for me, but I was not supposed to take it college. !!! I just nodded my head and we went to a nearby TVS showroom to buy a vehicle. Looked through TVS Champs, XL Super and other models before me, my parents and our mechanic zeroed in on TVS Scooty ES. This model was just introduced and was a super hit in the market. I was very impressed with the model and the huge box space was an added advantage. It has a correct height and any one can easily manoeuver the bike.
Advantages of Scooty:
Very light to push if it stops mid way
Easy driving.
Comfortable handle bar makes turning easier unlike Kinetic Honda.
Less trips to the mechanic.
Comes in nice colors.
Affordable. (was 25K when I bought it)
Good Mileage (Mine gives atleast 50 Kmpl).
Has a good body and the model is so well made that the engine is not visible. In some other models like Bajaj Spirit and few others, from the back, you can see the engine and other spares under the bike.
Pillion seat is not very high and makes balancing comfortable.
Disadvantages:
There is no indication of a reserve mode. You will know that only when the bike stops for no reason..
When the bike stops because of a reserve, it takes lot of time to get it started again because of an air block (so said my mechanic)
Might skid when you apply brakes all of a sudden.
Poor shock absorbing.
The box can be opened with any other Scooty Key
This bike is definitely useful for women - college goers and office goers. Even women over 50 can comfortably handle this bike. For men, it may look a bit small and uncomfortable.
I am owning this bike for over 5 years now and I have grown to love it. It has fallen so many times, has showered in the rain, scorched in the sun but still runs like a sweet thing. Once over 3 years old, this bike requires regular servicing once every 3 months to ensure that it is in proper condition.
One word of caution: Please do not leave any valuables in the Scooty box.
