TVS Star City

Dear All,

This is for the people who want to buy TVS Star City and also for the frustrated of existing Star city customer. I bought the bike in 2012 with little high price than Hero Honda CD Deluxe almost 50K Rupees, I bought this bike for the look and style, the bike is little long and I thought I will get better riding comfort. Before sharing my experience below are the pros and cons.

Pros:

2. Powerful Head lamp and hi-Beam has great focus I never seen in any bike

   
   




3. Fuel Consumption(Avg 65 KMPL based on riding style)

   
   




4. Pickup is OK not compared with Honda

   
   

Cons:

1. Engine Over heat

   
   




2. Cheap and worst spare parts

   
   




3. Engine gets turn off and no option to start in gear needs to bring down to N

   
   




4. Very poor resale value

   
   

My experince from

2012 to 2013.

I was happy to drive this bike which had no engine noise initially I dint mind the engine over heating, I used to give it for regular service in TVS showroom in Madurai. For General Service they charged 500 Rs. Engine was good and once set to my riding till that I was riding 30 to 40 KM speed. it had given a great mileage of 75 KMPL and good fuel economy.

After 6 months the bike got skid in many places as I drive with the speed of 50 to 60 KM since they have put fake TVS tyres. I drive almost 500 KMs in 70 days so I need to give regular service every 500 Kms( This bike needs regular service )

I have little problem with brakes but overall this bike has given me satisfaction during my one year ride. I got the fuel consumption as 68 KMPL overall.

2013 to 2014

Problem started after 1 year of use and have described each problem

Brakes:

Brake shoes are too bad and makes a lot of sound when you apply brake and gives me irritation and during rainy period no need to use horn, to scare every one apply the brake strongly every one on road will get scatter:)

Tyres:

All vechicle should promise good security to the person who ride but in case of TVS it failed. Tyres became bald in 1.5 yrs and I almost to get hit to another vechicles many times, you cant ride the bike too fast during rainy time. Tyres are too cheap and worst.

Engine:

Engine gets overheated even you ride for small distance and need a air-cooler with it every time:) I never heard any bike will have Crank Shaft problem after 1.5 yrs usage of new bike that too I ride 14000 Kms. It means that TVS parts are no upto standard and cheap.

Dashboard:

Only a week you get your bike from Service your dashboard looks nice after that it will bcecome ugly.after 1.5 yrs of usage the key also became bald when the engine is on you can take out the key.:)

Spare-Parts:

I never such rusting of iron in any kind of bike. The center stand has rusted and its totally gone and now I am parking the bike with side stand only. To get this replacement you need to pay more thats tricky;)

Customer-Service

This is the main part in tragedy. for some reason I relocated to Chennai. My bike’s crank shaft got jammed and not able to move bike when I went to give my bike for service in Apple Motors, tvs, shollinganallur branch I wondered with their reply. for general service they charged Rs.1500 and when I told that manager I got service for Rs.500 in Madurai and the manager tells no way. After 1.5 yrs of riding. I replaced brake shoes 5 times. now I replaced Crank Shaft, they also told Chain Sproc gone(huhhhh) totally they estimated 3000 Rs.(huge money for cheap bike)

When I told to manager why such a 1.5 yrs old bike needs this much of parts to be changed this much early I told him what is your quality of TVS product, thating manager told all Honda and Other bikes also like this only. this is the place I got much angry on thating manager.

In his life he never used a honda bike, it seems,

I am using Honda shine from 2008, I had MRF tyres and till now the tyres are too good almost still I have 50% of life for the back wheel tyre.You cant compare Honda engine with TVS I drove almost 38000 KMs and still the engine is smooth and silent. I recently replaced the chain sproc after 32000 Kms( here you can compare the quality of TVS product)

I give my Honda bike to service every 5000 Kms only, some times I change engine oil thats all but my bike gives me confident mileage of 52 to 55  KMPL and my riding style from 6o to 75 KM speed.

Please never spend money on this bike, basically this bike needs regular service , else this bike will sounds like Auto Rickshaw:)
