I Have owned A Max 100 DC the non battery version of the bike for close to 3 months and clocked 5000 kms.There is no better motorcycle at this price and with such low maintainance.The purchase price is very low and the new model introduced in July 2002 addresses all the previous bugs as far as looks are concerned.However not much change has been done to the engine.I will highlight the benefits of the bike.
1)Since Maximum power is developed at a low 5500RPM and a low compression of 6.7:1 the life of the engine is the maximum.With routine maintainance and regular oil changes the life of the engine is very high and engine life factor the second highest at 2.71 among two wheelers after the rajdoot 175.For the benefit of readers engine life is calculated as 100000/maximum rpm of engine x compression ratio of engine.Hence higher the ELF the longer the engine will last.
2)The Bike returns a average of 58 kms in city in new delhi which is comparable to the four strokes which give fuel efficiency at the cost of their low engine lifes.
3)As all parts are made by TVS in india they are very cheap and cost of spares never hurt and also being a two stroke Maintainance is very easy with no additional parts like valves timing chain etc.
4)The biggest strong point of the bike is its light weight and the rock solid engine though the clutch design is obsolete as compared to the four strokes.Engines of the Max 100 have a reputation of regularly clocking over 90000 kms before they need overhauling of the piston and rings.
5)The Cost Of the New Model in New delhi is Rs 32000.00 on Road Inclusive of RTO and road tax etc which is much cheaper than many 4 stroke bikes.
6)As the Bike does not have a battery additional maintainance costs are avoided every 4 years as a new battery costs Rs 500.00.It is a Misnomer that a bike will perform badly without a Battery.The Max 100 DC does not need a Battery as it has a very power Magneto of 12V/80 Watts and a powerful 5 Amps Rectifier capable of supplying current for all the Indicators, Brake light, and also Providing Superb Beam Quality of the Head Light even at low engine speeds.The head Light Penetration Capability of the Max 100 DC is much better than many four strokes bike which possess a Battery.
5)So far I have not encountered any problems on the bike and I would recommend this bike to any new buyer who does not have a aversion towards 2 stroke bikes.
Maintainance tips:
Always Keep Crankcase Oil and 2T Oil tank Topped up and keep the 2T Oil Pump Correctly adjusted.
