Wego - delivering performance till now

9 Jan 2016

My wego has crossed 8000 kms, I have been regularly servicing it in Kalewadi, Saira Motors, Chinchwad, Pune every three moths, it is I generally doing 6-10 km per day over numerous speed barkers and pot holes, not to be mention negotiating the erratic traffic.

I have spent only a few rear 3-4 tyre punctures( some of it I guess could be caused due to puncture shops themselves by spreading nails), carrying doubles almost 50% of the time, bringing home bhajis, shopping from Dmart and all, I have not taken it out for distance beyond 30 km so it is mainly city driven.

The Goods

Average: is around 38-40 which is ok never expected it to go beyond that given the condition of traffic

absolutely no rattling problem still running solid

Front high hook is a blessing as compared activa stupid low hook, I have put 7-8 kgs on it no problems

good for my back as compared to Activa 125( I have both), I had a sprain recently this was more comfy

Petrol Tank cover is great so I dont get up at all while filling petrol

Rear Leg rest are made of fiber are good as they dont jam up after rain+ dirt, activas did

Battery is holding on after 3 years

Cold starting is great even at low temperatures but I regularly use a choke(Activa - is a nightmare, use choke, wait for 20 sec, kick it and pray)

Negotiates bumps still comfortably but the Tyre pressure has to be maintained

the bad

brakes are not as good as they used to be but then living in Pune you have to break and speed up every 4 sec so they would be the most overused item,

Gravels and dirt track are a problem I have to slow down and negotiate at a crawling speed, Activa is no better so guess:( as my old Chetak was confident over such tracks

I get a smell of petrol from rear petrol cover not much but it is there

wish charging for mobile was there.

Helmet does not fit but I have put a wire lock at the back.

8th Jan 2013

I had purchased a Wego from Saira Motors, Kalewadi Road. Pune on 8th Jan 2013. I have a car which I have been using extensively but the traffic conditions on the Dange chowk Chinchwad Pune have worsened, hence the decision to buy a two wheeler. I have driven 275 Kms till today(26th Jan) and have filled petrol twice.

The Dealer told me on delivery that he had filled 1 liter petrol guess it was half a liter as I filled another 4 liters it did not reach the top full mark.(Capacity of tank is five liter). The dealer advised me not to go beyond 60, the manual says do not go beyond 50 till first 1000 kms, so I am following the manual. I am giving a review below, generally I am not too critical of the products I purchase but I will try to be objective.

Pros

-Balance is very good and very stable(even at near  zero speed)

-Braking very good, remains straight(but I use both brakes), a truck passed across and I survived, so I know

-Looks - OK(I find hero maestro better)

-Ride comfort - Good

-Rattling - zero

-Light - Bright

-Fuel Economy giving approximately  44( Tested it from full - filled to top tank - to another full tank)

-Horn is loud

-Height is good( I am six feet so very comfortable but my wife is 5’7"- comfortable for her too)

-Side stand does not make the vehicle lean out too much maybe 25-30 degrees

-Vertical stand is very easy to use

  • Petrol filling is comfortable, me and my wife can keep on sitting watching the meter as petrol is filled up, otherwise other people have their back to the meter

-Front hook is nice for holding carry bags but would have wanted another one with the seat

  • Seat is comfortable to the extent that if you travel on it with your back straight and take care to slow down on speed breakers and potholes, you can cover 60 km at a stretch in traffic conditions with no back pain. Not true for Activa, it gives you one.

-Tyres are puncture resist not puncture proof, but that is ok.

Cons

-Storage space is very less 15 inch - full helmet does not fit in

-Charger in storage space is not convenient - firstly the space heats up secondly who will keep the mobile there, the charger point in front storage would have been ideal

  • Color range is very limited and uninspiring - scooty has a higher range

  • Milometer reading is pathetic - petrol level is not correctly indicated - I fail to understand why is calibration not possible or give a digital meter giving approximate level of petrol remaining.

  • Front storage is useless - I would have preferred it to be deeper

  • A hook can be provided below the seat for holding extra bags - the one provided is plastic, hope it survives, my bajaj chetak had a steel one and I have carried more than 10 kg of subjis on it.

  • Sound of tone for indicators is very low cant hear it in traffic, will try to get it replaced

  • Does not handle dirt track too well, neither does it handle road with small stones strewn across(as when the road is being built) I do not know about the performance of  other 2-wheelers, but I have seen pleasure skid too.

Overall I feel it is a good package the pros outweigh cons and the cons are not too bothersome either. Pune city traffic favors the 2-wheelers, I have been able to drive through traffic, on footpath and side dirt tracks. I now drive without  worrying about killing  two wheelers who regularly come in my lane and in front of my car, neither am I worried about well being of my car and saving it from - two wheelers, autos, taxis, other cars. and save some money too. Saira motors people are very nice, have been very helpful till now. So a good experience. Will keep on updating.
