On a London-Dubai flight I overheard a chat between an Ozi and an American about cricket. Our flight was behind schedule by two hours and most of us had connecting flights to catch, making us unusually restless and talkative.
So these two young guys, who were visibly bored and tired of sitting, stood in the front and as is with most passengers that stand in full public view they were conscious of other bored passengers’ eyes on them. It was most natural for them to talk and here is what the American had to say, "Oh you like cricket, I don’t understand it. One small ball and men hitting it while other ten go looking for it. Very confusing--baller running, batsman running, fielder running, everybody running!" Ever since then I see cricket as a comical sport--one small ball and everybody running.
That apart, I think Indian cricketers are vulgarly hyped, obscenely overpaid and supremely corrupt. The nation needs to rise up for other sports and art, spl the classical arts.
