Dil Se Re...Dil se mere...

From time immemorial love is one emotion which has catastrophic effect on nerves. It can make someone crazy, another may retreat in silence, one becomes a warrior, another becomes a poet.

Many different ways have been used to convey feelings for the beloved- poetry, songs, dedications, monuments. Great Emperor Shahjahan dedicated a marble mausoleum to his beloved, and some *shaayar* commented *“Ek shahenshah ne bana ke haseen Taj mahal, hum gareebon ki mohabbat ka banaya hai mazaak”*. You don’t have to be a king to love. Words, with some great music, melodious voice is a perfect combination to declare the sentiments for the beloved.  Shy love or bold love, have a perfect vent to the emotions - music and poetry.

I just wanted to share my favorite love songs with you all. These songs have touched my heart.

*Humne dekhi hai in aankhon ki*

Film: Khamoshi

Singer(s):Lata Mageshkar

Lovely lyrics, especially, *“Pyaar koi bol nahi, pyaar awaaz nahi, ek khamoshi hai, sunti hai kaha karti hai.” *So much has been said in these few lines.

*Lag ja gale ki phir ye haseen raat ho na ho*

Film: Wo kaun thee

Singer(s): Lata Mangeshkar

Sweetly poignant love song.

Saadhna, who plays the ghost(?) in the movie sings this for Manoj Kumar. A truly “haunting” song.

*Ye raat bheegi bheegi*

Film: Shri 420

Singer(s): Lata Mangeshkar

My favorite rain song. This is always the first song in my play list when it rains.

*Tere bina zindagi se *

Film: Aandhi

Singer(s): Lata Mangeshkar

To love is to forgive…Love is sacrifice*’Tere bina zindagi se koi shikwa to nahi…’

*Tu is tarah se meri zindagi mein*

Film: Aap to aise na they

Singer(s): Manhar Udhaas

Very well sung song. Music is great. This movie has two other versions of the same song, one sung by Hemlata and another by Mohd. Rafi. Personally I feel that Manhar Udhaas’ version is far better than the other two.

*Koi roko na deewane ko*

Film: Priyatama

Singer(s): Kishore Kumar

A romantic number from not so successful film ‘Priyatama’. Rakesh Roshan playing the guitar for his newly married friends in rain on terrace. Not many people may have heard this song. Love is naughty;-) Judge it after hearing it.

*Kabke bichhde hue*

Film: Laawaaris

Singer(s): Kishore Kumar & Lata Mangeshkar

Love and longing in Kashmir. Amitabh Bachchan and Zeenat Aman reunited after long years of separation. Setting is just average, but then who cares about the visuals when the song is fabulous.

*Chhoo kar mere mann ko*

Film: Yaarana

Singer(s): Kishore Kumar

Kishore Kumar at his best.

*Ye kahan aa gaye hum*

Film: Silsila

Singer(s): Lata Mangeshkar & Amitabh Bachchan

Its my all time favorite. Direct dil se *“Meri saans saans mehke, koi bheena bheena chandan…Tera pyar chandni hai, mera dil hai jaise aangan…”

*Zindagi jab bhi teri bazm mein laati hai humein*

Film: Umraao Jaan

Singer(s): Talat Aziz

Rekha looking elegantly pretty. The 19th century backdrop was a perfect setting for this beautiful song. The besotted lover laments *“Har mulaaqat ka anjaam judai kyon hai? Ab to har waqt yahi baat sataati hai humein…”*. Great shaayri by Shahryaar.

*Hum tumhe chahte hai aise*

Film: Qurbaani

Singer(s): Manhar Udhaas

Wow, itni shiddat… So intense are the emotions that they simply transport you to an ethereal world *“Le chalenge tumhe hum waha par.tanhai sanam. shehnai ban jaaye jahan par”

*Jhuki Jhuki si nazar*

Film: Arth

Singer(s): Jagjit singh

This Ghazal does not need any supporting comment. One of the best by Jagjit singh.

*Sambhaala hai maine bahut apne dil ko*

Film: Naraaz

Singer(s): Kumar Sanu

Very sentimental song. Just don’t watch the video, the magic will be spoilt by wooden faces of Sonali Bendre and Atul Agnihotri.

*Tere dar par sanam chale aaye*

Film: Phir teri kahaani yaad aayee

Singer(s): Kumar Sanu

Emotions at their best… beautifully penned lyrics and Kumar Sanu’s voice add a touch of poignance to this song.

*Jiske aane se rango mein doob gayee hai shaam*

Film: Diljale

Singer(s):Kumar Sanu

A master piece by Javed Akhtar. Very well thought use of similes.

*Jab kisi ki taraf dil jhukne lage*

Film: Pyar to hona hi thha

Singer(s): Kumar Sanu

This song touches the soul. Good https://lyrics.

*E Ajnabi*

Film: Dil Se

Singer(s): Udit Narayan

Longing for the lost love? This is the perfect song for echoing such sentiments.

*Khaali dil nahi ye jaan *

Film: Kachche Dhaage

Singer(s): Alka Yagnik, Sukhwinder

Don’t know why, but I just start singing along whenever I listen to this song. Something is there in this song, which has touched my heart…cant really figure out why…but yes it is one of my favs.

*Hum dil de chuke sanam*

Film: Hum dil de chuke sanam

Singer(s): Kavita Krishnamurthy

Perfect setting with a perfect looking couple. Great music by Ismail Darbar weaves a magical world of love.

*Nahi saamne tu*

Film: Taal

Singer(s): Hariharan

A.R. Rehman excels once again in this superb composition.

Don’t just listen.Feel them to believe.
