Sing along..

To choose 20 best Hindi songs is not easy. There are hundreds of beautiful songs and each one is great in its own place.

So, here’s the collection of my favorite songs- I have tried to pick songs of different moods, old and new, so that they can ‘represent’ many other songs.

1)**Hum hain raahi pyar ke – Nau do gyarah*

This song expresses a life philosophy. Great lyrics and singing.

2)**Kar chale hum fida…. ab tumhare hawale watan saathiyon*

I always find myself feeling very humble whenever I listen to this song. The words are very expressive and this is not about some imaginary scenario. *This is reality, even after 50 years.

3)**Yeh duniya agar mil bhi jaaye to kya hain*

We have some great songs with classic poetry. Here, the poet is frustrated with the world and he expresses his thoughts in the song.

4)**Abhi na jao chhod kar - Hum Dono*

Romantic song, meaningful lyrics, and extraordinary singers together make this song an all time classic.

5)** Ajeeb Dastan yeh hain *

This is one of Lataji’s best songs.

6)**Mann re tu kaahe na dheer dhare*

This is a very old song, slow, serious and soothing. It touches your soul.

7)**Aap ki aankho mein – Ghar *

Kishore Kumar and Lataji make this song great. I can’t imagine anybody else singing this magical song. The lyrics is classic too…

It goes like this- aap ki ankho mein kuch mehke hue se raaz hain…

‘mehke hue se raaz’….?….amazing  poetry.…

8)** Yeh bata muze zindagi- Saath saath *

Slow, soothing song, sad but not over emotional.

9)** Ruk jaana nahi tu – imtihan *

It is a slow song, but the words are very inspiring.

10)**Diwana hua baadal- Kashmir ki kali *

This film had all hit songs, but isn’t this one magical?

It is bollywood musical style at its best.

11)**Meri bheegi bheegi si – anamika *

It’s a sad song expressing the feelings of a betrayed lover.

12)**Aap ke anurodh par- Anurodh*

It is Kishore kumar’s magical voice. I don’t know why, but I like the word *‘anurodh’*, and the way kishore kumar sings the very first line is amazing. The rest of the song is good, too.

13)**Tere bina zindagi se koi- Aandhi*

One of my favorite movies, and, in a way, the song expresses the theme of the movie. Emotional and a bit sad, this one is in a different range.

14)**yeh jeevan hain*

Yet another Kishore Kumar classic. The lyrics are good poetry.

15)** Kaisi hain yeh rut ke - Dil chahta hain*

One of the ‘new’ type of songs, It has its own romantic mood.

16)** Tumse mil ke aisa laga – Parindaa*

I can’t help but say- choo chweet!

Seriously speaking, it’s a timeless classic. Fresh as ever, this beautiful song is not much slow, yet very melodious.

17)** Mehendi laga ke rakhna- DDLJ*

Ever since 1995, this song has become the ‘Official Wedding Song of India’. Does it deserve the honor? Oh, yes, it certainly does!

It has a catchy rhythm and it is definitely the perfect *Shaadi ka gaana.

18)** Ek duje ke vaaste- dil to paagal hain*

DTPH had many good songs; but this one is….ummm…cho chweeet.

(Ok, I must do something about this!)

19)**Pehla nasha – Jo Jita Wohi Sikandar*

The best thing is, it’s been 11 years since its release and it’s still as fresh as a flower.

20)**So gaya yeh jahan- Tezab*

Tezab was more famous for the dance song ‘1 2 3’. But, this song never fails to impress me. If I am remembering correctly, this one comes in the movie when the leading trio is driving on a lonely city road at night. It’s just too good. Especially the stanza where the lady sings- *‘kuch meri suno, kuch apni kaho, ho paas to aise chup na raho…’ *and the hero then sings- *‘hum paas bhi aur door bhi hain’… * Great tune it is.

There are many more songs that I could not include. But, do tell me your comments about this collection.
