**Gammaan di raat lambi hai ja mere geet lambe ne
na kaali raat mukdi e na mere geet mukde ne.**
(Is this night of sadness long or my songs are long,
neither this black night is ending, nor are my songs.)
As I remember these lines of **Shiv Kumar Batalwi**, I start to think of the sad songs in Hindi cinema. I knowlove is in air, but due to experiences with life and personal choice, Ive always liked sad songs over love songs and hence always liked Mukesh over Rafi.
Similarly, in a triangular love story, Ive always liked the hero who couldnt get the heroine, as they say, real taste of love is in partition. And as Talat once sung, Hain sab se madhur wo geet jinhe hum dard ke sur mein gaate hain.
Before I begin to depress you with my favourite sad songs, will like to clear few things:
I) In romantic or dancing songs, music plays an important role, and even mediocre lyrics can make a song hit . But in sad songs the importance of lyrics, followed by voice is more than that of music.
II) Some may think that Rafi was the best voice for sad songs, I think I dont need to tell who really was:).
III) This isn list of my favourite sad songs, rather it is list of sad songs, which are my favourite.
IV) Will try my best to avoid, but please bear with me if the list is dominated by one voice.
