Ill cut the chit-chat and get straight to the list. This is, of course, not in any particular order.
- Chop Suey - System Of A Down.
System of a Down are of Armenian origin, which gives their songs that distinct middle-eastern touch. Lead singer Serj has a beautiful, passionate voice that elevates SOAD above the rest of the mediocre alt-rock pack.
Chop Suey was their first single from the album Toxicity. It starts off with a mandolin-esque intro, before slamming into gear with an all-out percussion attack. Despite its none-too-discreet lyrics on suicide, Its a great song from start to finish. I especially love the middle portion, where Serj lamentsI cry.when angels deserve to die.
- Blood Brothers - Iron Maiden T
his one is definitely one of the most beautiful songs Ive heard.its not very heavy, even though its by Iron Maiden. The Guitar Solo at the end and the strings accompaniment - its all perfect. The chorus is a little lacklustre - but thats ok - the rest of the song makes up for it. My favourite part is at the very end, when Bruce Dickinson whispers:
When you think that weve used all our chances
And the chance to make everything right,
Keep on making the same old mistakes
Makes untipping the balance so easy
When were living our lives on the edge
Say a prayer on the book of the dead.
- Here To Stay - Korn
Korn unwillingly started the rap-metal craze with their album Follow the Leader, not realizing at that time that their new genre would be eagerly lapped up by such paragons as Linkin Park.
To Korns credit, their new Album Untouchables boasts a totally different yet hauntingly familiar Korn sound. With their tuned doen guitars, deep bass and singer Jonathan Davis rasping vocals, Korn songs have that eerie, youre-alone-now feel that is just so darn cool! Here To Stay is the first single off Untouchables. My favorite part is in the middle, as the guitars dies down as Davis rasps:Im Here To Stay.Bring me Down!
- Out of Time - Blur
This ones from Blurs new Think Tank album. Recorded in Morocco, Out of Time is a slow, beautiful number.if you listen closely, you can hear a moroccan marketplace in the background. I cant help admiring Albarnes vocals.
- I Died For You - Iced Earth
Iced Earth are an often overlooked, severely under-rated metal band. TryI died for you You wont regret it.
- Links 2 3 4 - Rammstein
Rammstein are a German metal band who worked onDu Hast, of Matrix fame. Links 2 3 4 is a german march anthem from their album Mutter. The starting guitar riff is just too good!
- Killing In the Name of - Rage Against the Machine
Tom Morellos far-out guitaring, Zack De La Rochas adrenaline filled delivery, an inspiring chant ofF you, I wont do what you tell me!.good stuff.
- Static X - Invincible
See My Shadow Zone review for more on Static X.
- Puddle OF Mudd - Blurry
A grunge group in the same vein as Nirvana - Puddle of Mudds debut album, Come Clean sounds startlingly similar to Kurt Kobains group. Blurry is one of all-time favourites - the lyrics are just so.well, fitting in my case
- Queensryche - Silent Lucidity
Queensryches lyrics - out of this world
Trapt - Headstrong
Children of Bodom - Hate Me!
Death Metal may not be everyones cup of tea, but guitar affectionadoes should give this one a try - the guitaring is jaw-dropping!
- ColdPlay - Everythings Not Lost
The hypnotic guitar riff gets me going every time
- and 15. Metallica - Fade to Black and Master of Puppets
They had to be there. Too many songs to choose from - these 2 probably are a cut above the rest.especially Master of Puppets
- Breaking the Habit - Linkin Park
The only LP song that doesnt follow the sample-power chord-rapping-screaming-scratching formula that Ive grown tired of, this ones impressive.
- Limp Bizkit - Lonely World
See my review on results may vary
System of A Down - Aerials
Blood Brothers - Papa Roach
not to be confused with the Iron Maiden one.
- Rock You Like a Hurricane - Scorpions.
Well, there you have it. Half these songs may not be all that well-known.try d/loading them.trust me, it wont be a waste of your time.
