Rock classics!!

Well, I was not an ardent fan of rock music till two years back, and now I curse myself for wasting years of my life living in my supposed bliss ignorance. Thus, I had a lot of catching up to do, and I think I have done pretty well at that. I have complied a list of 20 of my favourite and evergreen rock numbers. Compiling such lists are super human activities, but than I am super-human;-).

Blaze of glory - Bon Jovi

Cool lyrics, any young revolutionist’s dream song. The don’t say die attitude. Cool song!

Aqualung - Jethro Tull

A great number, with a nice transition between a fast song and a slow number. Climaxes really well, great song all the way!

My sacrifice - Creed,

When you are with me, I am free, I am careless, I believe.

Amazing song, great video as well! One of the best in the recent times

Shine on you crazy diamond - Pink Floyd

PF at their psychedelic best. Listen to the 17 minute version. Its epic, ultra cool saxophone at the end, you just hope it would keep going on and on and on.

Another brick in the wall - Pink Floyd

Can any rock list be complete without this anthem?

We don’t need no education, we don’t need no thoughts control.,

The song for all mavericks the world over.

Jeremy - Pearl Jam

A different kinda song here. Jeremy is a song about a kid who grows up bad, real bad. The lyrics say them all. Cool song here!

Bohemian rhapsody - Queen

The epic of them all. the greatest radio hit of all time. Speaks about a guy who has killed someone and is repenting for it. a true rhapsody if there ever was one!

Smells like teen spirit - Nirvana

The metal mayhem. the only real metal number I like. Cobain yelling his throat out. Power unlimited!

Nothing else matters - Metallica

Another classic here. The first rock song I liked, in fact the best song for a rock beginner:-).

So close, no matter how far. Great lyrics!

Cats in the cradle - Ugly Kid Joe

One of my favourites on the meaning front. Amazing song because of the meaning contained in it.

Also the song starts and ends with the same tune, cool song!

November Rain - Guns and Roses

A great number from the’Use your illusion’ album. Its a ten minute experience wherein Slash rocks all the way! Check Slash out with his solo at the end. Its a pity that GNR had to break up.

Hotel California - Eagles

Another classic where the acoustic version overcame the electric version. The acoustic version boasts of some of the greatest guitaring skills of all time. cool lyrics as well! A song that will be evergreen.

Dark side of the moon - Pink Floyd

Its not possible to single out a song in this classic album, because its not a bunch of songs, DSOTM is an experience. each song in the album beautifully precedes the others, notably Money and Time. However, Brain Damage and Eclipse take the cake. If you thought lunacy was taboo, Pink Floyd gave lunatics a way out here. Keep it playing again and again.

Highway Star - Deep Purple

The first rock I heard, in a Philips Powerhouse ad. hated it the first time. But then when I heard it again, WOW! Whatta song man. Damn the lyrics and the content of the song. The guitaring and the power packed in it is cool. Hear it everyday!

American Pie - Don McLean

A lovely song, redone badly in contrast by Madonna. Speaks about a world going crazy, with no music. Cool music and amazing lyrics! Not one everybody’s list surprisingly.

Kashmir - Led Zeppelin

Only 3 letters can describe this one. WOW! You got to hear it to believe me. It speaks of Kashmir, not as a disputed land(?) but as a paradise. Seeking my Kashmir. Its Jimmy Page and his guitar all the way!

Whole Lotta Love - Led Zeppelin

An erotic song if you can call it that. Check out Rob Plant groaning midway through the song! Will give jeepers to people. But again its Page and his energetic guitar that takes it all! The song is a classic man.

Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd

PF again, with their greatest hit. The song takes you high everytime you listen to it. Ts like you are floating in the tunes of Walters and his men.

Free Bird - Lynyrd Skynyrd

The best guitaring I have ever heard. Don’t think I will ever hear a performance as great as this. A lovely song here. Its a great pity that a great band like LS was taken away from mankind due to a plane tragedy. Wish we could have had more of their tunes.

Stairway To Heaven - Led Zeppelin

My favourite of all time. Leaves me in a trance everytime I listen to it. I love the way the song picks up the tempo from a slow pace to the inspirational anthem at the end. A song like no other. As everyone knows, if you read JRR Tolkien’s writings, you would understand the song. else the words in the song are just a hopeless jumble to be deciphered. This one can never be equalled.

Hope you guys liked the list. Please let me know of classics I have left out or I am ignorant about.
