Bhadran jumps off the cliff...

Udayon - the much awaited mohanlal movie, turned out to be a cropper, just because the storywriter went crazy after writing the first half. Udayon is the story of a hard working, resourcful dad- Shooranadu Kunju [Mohanlal], who inherited his dad’s property, did agriculture and expanded his empire in a village in Kerala Karnataka border. He has five kids, Innocent, Mohanlal again as Pappoyi, Idavela babu, Sukanya and Ponnan [an illegitimate offspring]. The first half proceeds in good time pass, small quarrels, fun and stuff. The main plot is that Kunju had cheated his sister - bindu panicker of the land she was to inherit, and her sons [Mani, Manoj K Jayan] resent it, and get to fighting with Kunju and Pappoyi. Things get serious as Mani’s Brother in law Mundaperumal [Salim Ghouse] comes and time pass gives away to total bore as families clash, fight tooth and nails and eventually both teams end up gross losers [and so does the movie]... Mohanlal as Kunju and pappoyi look good, the former’s make up is awesome. Laya as Pappoyi’s love is sick, disgusting and totally ’unsahikkable’... The female needs to learn the basics of acting. Jagathi and Innocent are wasted. Kalabhavan Mani and Manoj are excellent, Salim Ghouse is ok... Songs and picturisation is good, but both the songs involving Pappoyi are- umm - boooooooooring. Especially ’Chakkare’ Lal does justice to his fans, but Bhadran messes up in the end, making people feel ’The movie? I’d rather not think and talk about it’ when they walk out of the theater.
