Now, This place might not sound too exotic of a kind. I would certainly recommend a trip to Uganda for those kind of travellers who love exploring.
A good time to visit this place is around March - April , cos its raining and its just summer then.
I had been to Uganda ( kampala -- Capital City ) on a Business trip and it was definitely a lovely place to be.
Some of the interesting things around the place is a small town called JINJA , just a few kms from it is the source of the river NILE. And its the place where the river nile originates and starts its long journey.
In a distance of about 10-15 kms of the nile river are some beautiful exotic resorts and water falls, and one can definitely spend 2-3 days lazing around the banks of the nile river and relish on some fresh fish from the river.
Towards the country side ( About 13 - 15 kms ) on a highway you can see the EQUATOR pass by. You could actually step your feet across the northern and the southern hemisphere of the globe.
Well, other than that in order to go on a Safari you will have to travel overnight to the north of the country which I was unable to do due to my business commitments.
The hospitality is good from the local residents , though you need’nt fear of getting mugged on the streets but it is definitely advisable to stay indoors after dark, and to commute only through Taxi’s. The place is relatively safe , safer than Nigeria, Ghana and kenya for outsiders.
Another thing to be careful about is that the country is an open field for casual sex. AIDS rate is quite high but not as high as Zimbabwe and South Africa. But, its still advisable to stay away from casual sex though there are pubs and discos where you could easily get carried away.
All in all its a great place for nature lovers, and a definite treat for water sport freaks.
