Cornwall

Cornwall is the most southwest point in the United Kingdom. Called Kernow in her native tongue, this place is quite possibly one of the most charming corners of the the UK. I spent a few years here and sometimes believe I’ve left my heart behind. With her rolling hills and steep valleys, this place has many nooks to explore.

Cornwall has some of the most beautiful coast lines I have ever seen. I love how her dark grey jagged cliffs drop directly perpendicular to the lovely white beaches below. I love the tiny little winding country roads that rarely have enough room for one vehicle to pass, and the sometimes held up traffic by a farmer moving his herd of sheep from pasture to pasture. The pastures are separated by hedgerows, most of which have existed for centuries. In the spring these hedges sprout out a rainbow of flowers. Along these tiny roads, charming little villages pop-up and each is unique. Bright yellow daffodil farms dot the hills near Trelawney in the spring blinding the passers by.

The people of this land are friendly and courteous. You can find the best Chip Shoppes you’ve ever been to and wonderful curry sauce to use for dipping your chips. They have their own claim to fame in the food department, a Pasty. A pastry pie filled with a variety of ingredients from meats, veggies, to cheese...any thing you can think of...even curry. Give thanks to the early tin miners of this area for this dish....it was developed so they could have hot meals that were easy to eat in the mines.

This land is rich with customs and history. There have been people in Cornwall since before the Bronze Age. There are many famous places to visit while in Cornwall. Some of which are the various standing stones found as far north as Bodmin Moore, to as far south as Lands End. Some are in circular formation, others are standing alone. And you thought that Stonehenge was the only stone circle in the United Kingdom! They have recently finished a Bio Dome near St. Austell that mimics various climates. There are tons of fortresses to visit...St. Michael’s Mount is sure to not disappoint. I could go on for hours on the wonders of Cornwall, birth place of the legendary brave King Arthur. I’ll place a link here that has wonderful info on this place. I hope if you ever get the chance to visit Cornwall you will take advantage and you’ll see first hand why I love this land so much. https://cornwall-online.co.uk/resindex.htm
