Land of Opportunity

United States of America is in my opinion is the best place for the immigrants. For average Indians, this great land is irrestible. Just count the numbers of people standing outside american consulate to enter legally. Or the horrible plight: some people take to enter by crossing hot desert in Mexico or hiding inside ships to come home America. United states is a great country not only in millitary mights and economical power but in every sphere of knowledge and art endeavors. It has been possible due to the greatness of average americans, their boundless spirit for freedom, and can do mentality. I spent several years in particularly in North East and Sourthern parts of USA. My first experience in USA was coming to a graduate school in Massachusetts. The fall season is NewEngland is awesome with brilliant colored leaves and rolling hill landscapes. In my two years staying in that college town, I had been helped by many americans including free ride, taking me to their family for thanksgiving and christmas dinner, and even free furniture and kitchen utensils. Almost all of them were more honest and helpful than ever I was in my life to any fellow Indians back in home. Americans are very fun loving people and when they talk to you, they give you all the attention looking at your eyes and laughing all the times. They are very honest and professional in their work and try to help out others genuinely and one thing which I will never forget their great memory for remembering your names.

I have seen Indians and other immigrants who gone to position like Dean in schools, R&D managers in Top companies and of course numerous IT experts with out connections or bribes. It was comforting to me once to see in a small airport in Pensylvania: a young guy was announcing the flight arrival and departures but his accent was hardly understandable. He came from Czec Republic and could get a job in Airport when he could not speak even their language clearly. Americans are extremely funny people and rarely discuss their personal matters with others. Although there are close to a million of Indians living in USA, many americans have asked me repeatedly If I know a particular Indian guy a girl whom they meet in South Carolina some years earlier.

While in India, we discuss politics all the times, and nothing wrong about that. During my staying in USA, I rarely seen any one talking about politics. Life in USA seems to me very localized where people worry about their community and the city or town where they live. Most TV broadcastings rarely cover anything other than their city and state in the local news.Even the newspapers follow the same route.

Americans in general are very generous people. They contribute large amount of money to charity. They have indirectly adopted many disable kids in world by donating money every month. The keep the photo of those kids in their office desk with their own kids as I had seen in the company where I was working. They write letters to those kids and end them: I love you and often sign as mom or dad. American homes are very beautiful with shinning furnitures and glittering decorations. When you go as guest to their house, they show you the whole house and you are free almost to move around. One funny thing in their house is the importance of their pets. dogs and cats rule americans in their home. They move around everywhere and often sleep in the comfy bed.According to some statistics, americans spend more money on cat and dog foods than on baby foods.

I lived in deep south for one year and in that small town, I was the only Indian. I have never been treated bad and I enjoyed the southern hospitality and fried chicken with sugar laced ice tea.To end my review, my several years of experience in American was very joyful and pleasant. I had some bad time here and there but I dont remember them very much. I lived my years in a clean corruption free country with mountains, valleys and highways with my ford escort hatch back ready to take me any destination.
