I am a registered freelance writer for blog/article/short-long stories. The sites asks you to pass some tests in the field you are signed in as a freelancer as this will increase the chances of hiring you by the client, and so I gave exam for 3 three ENGLISH-RELATED topics and passed each of them. However, I have got received even a single work till the date from that site. I work in other sites too, and the frequency of getting work in other freelance websites are high as compared to UPWORK.COM
Most of the clients here for hiring a writer for their task is from foreign countries, and so they do not prefer a writer with INDIAN profile.
So, as far as FREELANCE WRITING is concerned, I will not suggest you guys to sign up here at upwork, as the chances of getting a project is really less. However, if you are a freelancer in other fields, then you may proceed this site.
