Rated R-
I used to love scary movies. As an adult I no longer enjoy them. So it took a lot for me to sit down and watch “Urban Legend.” I adore Joshua Jackson, of Dawson’s Creek fame, and I want to see all of his movies. I prepared myself and got ready to watch. Here is my review.
The movie starts off with typical scary movie moments and inevitable death scenes. The deaths all revolve around the main character, Natalie, played by Alicia Witt. All her friends are meeting their demise by a serial killer who uses urban legends to kill them. The first of which is, someone is in the backseat of your car with an axe. This killer wears a coat with a fur trimmed hood and all the people in the movie seem to own a coat just like this.
The college reporter, Paul, played by Jared Leto, teams up with Natalie to try and solve this killing spree. Joshua Jackson plays Damon, a trouble-maker. His role was rather small, or should I say short lived, so that was disappointing.
The movie did keep you guessing and the guessing always ended up being wrong. I won’t give away the ending, but all in all it ruined the movie. It was a film that kept you watching, kept you wondering whodunit and then ended up being just plain silly. I give the movie a so-so rating.
The movie also starred Robert Englund, from “The Nightmare on Elm Street” series of movies, and Rebecca Gayheart.
It was written by Silvo Horta and Directed by Jamie Blanks.
They should have had a different lead actress though. Alicia Witt was a very boring person to watch being chased around. She had no real motions.
It wasn’t a bad movie. It had all the expected horror and suspense that a scary movie should. If you like horror movies, then give this one a try!
Enjoy!
