Manmathan-All over Again

So who is the hottest composer in Kollywood...YUVAN, no 2 ways about it..He just churns out hit after hit after hit..Why?? For one, he belongs to the youth brigade and knows exactly what the current generation wants for their music. He renders music that suits the booming sound sytems in the movie halls and the little ear muffs of the smallest of i-pods.Also he has found that unique blend of Ilayaraja and ARR’s brands of music.Believe me, thats one killer combo he’s got there..

Haunting melodies, romantic melodies, hip-hop, trance, Kuthu, slow numbers, he’s got them all and like ARR he delivers special music when he works with certain directors.

Simbhu (Hereafter referred to as Chimp) is one among them and the duo delivered a chart buster when they teamed up for Manmathan. So why fix it, when it ain’t broken, the duo has come up with the same kind of music with 1 remix, 1 kuthu song, and 2 melodies. And I think they have succeded in recreating the commercial magic again..

Song 1: Kadhal Vanthiruchu

Artists:Simbhu, Premji

Yuvan is lucky. His old man and has given so many classics, he could deliver 1 hit per movie just remixing them.Kadhal Vanthiruchu is that awesome song in Ulaganayakan Kamal’s Kalyanaraman. The remix opens with the original song (sung by Malaysia Vasudevan) which gradually fades out and Chimp’s voice moves in with the modern version.

Chimp may not be a great actor (no hard feelings Chimp fans, if there are any!!) but he sure does have a good voice. His rendering of the song is excellent and his modulations are perfect.

Yuvan has preserved the original tune of the song and has mixed it with guitar and choice percussion.

This remix is sure to catch on...

Song 2 : Loosu Penne

Artists:Simbhu, Blaaze

This is Vallavan’s ’’Kadhal Valarthen’’. Loose Penne does not have the haunting feel of the Manmathan hit but this number is very similar and tries to capture the anguish of a guy in love.

The lyric is very simple and down to earth, sweet in its own way. There are so many ’’Loosu’’’s in this lyric, Chimp could probably hold a competition asking fans to guess the correct number..

Chimp, once again does a good job as the lead vocal and imitates Yuvan’s style of singing a bit.Blazee does his customary rapping (you know..the heart-breakins, aint no fakins, im insane, u feel the pain etc) that jels well with the song.

This number is my pick of the album and should do as well as Kadhal Valarthen. The All-Tamilian love song of 2006.

Song 3: Loose Penne Remix

Artists:Simbhu, Blaaze

Yuvan, ofcourse remixes his best song of each album, and yes its Loose Penne for Vallavan.I really liked this Hip-Hop version of the original melody. The rap fade-ins by Blazee is more effective in the remix and the choice of instruments is top-notch.

I especially liked the closing of the song, with the constant breaks and the techno finish.

Yeah.

Song 4: Vallava Enna

Artist:Sunitha Sarathy

This number reflects the heroine’s craving for the Chimp(!!) and is a melody mixed with a bit of Hip-hop and trance. The vocalist does a decent job, the tune is alright, result--an okay okay song.:)

Song 5: Podu Attam Podu

Artist:Vijay Yesudas

Yuvan has a special liking for Vijay Yesudas. He gets the Kuthu numbers in Yuvan’s collections.(Dai Namma Melam in Pattiyal, for instance) This song opens with the traditional Chimp Kuthu and follows the norms of an opening song for a movie with lyrics full of messages.Nothing special.

Song 6: Yemmadi Aathadi

Artists:T.Rajendaran, Suchithra, Simbhu & Mahathi

This is THE kuthu song of the movie.Sung by T.Rajendar and Suchitra, its vintage kuthu right from the opening. The music is foot tapping, expect the front benchers to dance for this number.

Perarasu, the new commercial king and self proclaimed lyricist, has penned the thought provoking lyrics for this song.He has thrown in a a few Yamma Yamma’s and a few Ayyo Ayyo’s so that you understand atleast a portion of what he has written.

The video should also be a Killer with Chimp and Nayan, Hope TR has not performed on screen.

The album also has Theme music and a Hip-Hip Hooray song which are passable and just make up the numbers.

Ofcourse, What’s the reviewer’s final word??? This Album is set to create the Manmathan Magic all over again and if the songs are picturised well, its Vallavan Mania all the way..

Keep Rocking Yuvan...

Satish.
