Thala the only saving grace in this dragging flick

So the combo of Ajith and Siva is back, but is it as good as Veeram not really. As all Siva movies the story has been kept very simple, Ajith(Ganesh/Vedalam) would do anything for his sister Lakshmi Menon(Tamizh).

The movie opens with Ajith and Lakshmi arriving in Kolkata and setting up there life. Ajith also goes after the bad guys every now and then, the reason why he does that is kept a secret which gets unfolded in the second half of the movie.

Unlike Thala’s previous release’Yenai Arindhal’ where everyone was on top of their game. Let it be the director or the supporting cast or the music but here nothing is in place and everything falls on Thala’s shoulder. Other than him and Lakshmi Menon everybody else is pathetic to say the least.

Coming to the music-this has to be the worst album of Anirudh in his so far impressive career. Nothing works here nor the songs nor the BGM everything is too loud, being a huge Anirudh fan it was disappointing to see him screw such a big opportunity.

Shruthi Hassan is fast becoming one of the most irritating actress let it be her expressions or her delivery, everything seems fake(but I gues all she had to do was flaunt her cleavage and her belly just like she has done in Poojai & Puli). The Director was so pissed off that he actually dubbed with someone else for her second half portion. Soori’s comedy is another let down he tries his best to mimic Vadivelu but is nowhere close to the legend.

Have to say that director Siva went a bit haywire with this one. It looked like as if he wasn’t sure with what he wanted to do. Of course there are moments where you are taken aback like the interval bang, one only wishes that the movie had more such moments. The editing should have been better too. There are quite a few portions which made no sense what so ever.

As stated earlier the only thing that works for this movie is Thala. It’s amazing how he switches his character so frequently and gives them different shades. His scenes at the end with Lakshmi Menon forms the best parts of the movie.

Overall watch it if you are a Thala fan. Personally I would like to watch Thala in movie’s like Yenai Arindhal where he is used to move the story forward(where his talent is also utilized to the fullest) rather than in a movie like Vedhalam were he is used to carry the whole movie by himself.
