A mature love story

The story is of Veer Pratap Singh [Shah Rukh Khan] who is a rescue pilot in the Indian Air Force. During the course of his duty he happens to come across Zaara(Preity Zinta) from Pakistan.

Zaara is about to marry a man of her parents’ choice. Veer falls in love with Zaara(but before he could express his love for her she has to back to Pakistan.Veer goes to Lahore to tell her about his feelings but finds himself arrested on the charge of being a spy. He languishes in a jail for 22 years until Saamiya Siddiqui (Rani Mukerji) who is a lawyer walks in. She tries to find out why Veer was silent all these years.

The movie is a typical Yash Raj movie with romance, emotions, songs and drama. This movie does not indulge in Pak-bashing and inflammatory dialogues( enough of that). On the contrary the movie has Rani

(a Pakistani lawyer) taking up Veer’s case. It’s a very mature love story with a happy ending.

The music is melodious and the lyrics meaningful. The movie dialogues are great. However the movie didn’t need so many songs. Shahrukh does an excellent job.Preity Zinta is elegant and Rani Mukherji plays a lawyer wonderfully. The surprise package in the movie were Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini who play Veer’s uncle and aunt. Both of them put up a great performance.

Veer-Zara- A must watch movie.
