Hello all, I have already written a review which you can find by by nick, but there are some big time mistakes in the movie that I failed to mention... Before mentioning them, I would like to tell you that I loved the movie itself and have already seen several times. So, here are the mistakes:
Preity’s Bebe comes to Pakistan in 1947 when she was 16 and in the flashback they were showing 1982, which is 22 years back from now. So that makes her 16+35=51. But, she looked 90!
The second one is when Shahrukh Khan rescues Preity Zinta. He says ’’Uss ki dahni aankh par ek baal usse tang kar raha tha’’ which means her right eye. But he removes her hair from her left eye.
The third is when Preity Zinta is pouring down the ashes in to the river. Although I’m not a hindu, but from the movies that I have seen I know that you are supposed to put them in the water but in the movie, she was pouring them down at her own feet standing a couple some feet away from the river itself hehe. If she had to do this, then what was the need to come to India all the way.
The Adab thing was emphasized a lot in the movie. Adab is hardly used in Pakistan but this mistake can be overlooked as Yash Chopra was trying to give an archaic feel to the movie.
The main backbone of the movie, the basis for the strong love of Veer and Zaara is not powerful. They were together for such a short time and Shahrukh khan didnt have any feelings for her. He was happily going to send her away back to Pakistan until Amitabh told him to tell her that you love her. So Shahrukh thinks for a couple of hours when dropping of Preity and develops such strong feelings that go on for 22 years after another brief meeting in Pakistan.
The same goes for Preity. Shahrukh Khan just tells her while saying bye bye that he likes her and based on just one dialogue that sarhaad paar aap kelie jaan bhi desakta hoon , she develops a love as well which lasts for 22 years. She leaves everyone in her own country and goes to settle there which doesnt make sense either. In two three days, you can’t develop such strong love, infatuation yes! And even if you do as people who believe in love at first sight do, you spend time together get to know each other more, only then that love becomes stronger and you become more sure of the feelings.
Kiron Kher says to Shahrukh that mai dua karongi har janam mai zaara teri ho. Well, muslims dont believe in seven janams so that was confusing as well.
Shahrukh Khan is stupid to be in the jail for 22 years. The Indian airforce could have done an enquiry or something as someone who has been in the Indian Air force dying in Pakistan would be a big issue. Secondly, he could have tried to find out about Zaara somehow.
The first three mistakes are big ones, rest can be overlooked, but anyhow the movie was great and different from the other stuff coming out. The climax was wonderful, the songs, the cinematography, the music were a real treat! I can see the ’’Aisa Des hai Mera’’ and ’’ Lodi’’ song again and again. I’m gonna prepare a song on the Lodi song with the girls in the next shaadi for sure! and also I read someones review saying there was a song in the courtroom. Well, wake up! That song wasnt sung by Shahrukh or Preity! That was in their imaginations.
The shock, the pain and the happiness was all there in their eyes and faces and you can’t expect the director to finish the scene in 10 seconds. Two lovers are meeting after 22 years unexpectedly so there has to be something special. Overall, the movie is great like I mentioned. I’m waiting eagerly for Swades and I’m sure it’s going to be a big blockbuster! After all, you can expect that from the person whoz movie was nominated for an Oscar! Tc all and be good ..$$$
