The Hunter is back on his trail

What is the difference between Kakha Kakha and Karka Karka?

The team is the same-Harris Jeyaraj and Gautam Menon. The theme is the same –the cop on the trail and the difference this time is it is donned by K (Kamal Haasan) in place of Surya (and not SJ but Gajini Surya). Not just that, he has used the Kantha sashti Kavacham on Police Kavacham and given a glitz-trig of few scintillating songs and few mundane ones too.

And the Genre for now in Tamil Cinema is hip hopping from the Ga Ga Ghana kind last year which is simply welcome and the chase for numbers is getting hot up there between Yuvan’s Vallavan, Harris’ Vetaiyadu and ARR’s Jilenru after Godfather dashed out.

The important thing to judge the scale of Vetaiyadu is that Kamal is in the lead and two things you can expect-Quality because he is not only a great actor but gives ears to the timbre of music and sings few too.

Luckily enough he did not try his tone on this one and the result is some beautiful voices behind the score-Hariharan, Devan, Tippu, Unni Menon, Srinivas, Mahalaxmi and the mercurial Mumbai Jayashree of Vasigara fame , but with classical overtures.

Any music album which has Kamal starrer hits the bulb only after release and it is to do with the impact of video content and his contribution to songs as well. For the moment, though lying low behind Jilenru , it is rocking my S Drive as I drive a long home and the feel reverberates back.

Karka Karka – As I shift gears on my Car to get to the main stretch, Andrea’s hip hop music fills the air and you expect a Police kind of "I will be watching you" stuff to introduce Kamal as Cop Raghavan. Nope, it goes full turn with some scintillating lyrics which I hardly find in tamil songs these days and the modulation between classical Kakha Kakha to the POP Police is ample with instruments in pace with Devan’s voice and you get chilled with

"thuppaki matrum thotavai thaan kadhalithan" (he fell in love with only Gun and bullet)

" than saavai sattai payil vaithu yengeyum selkindraaaan " (and he moves with death in his shirt pocket)

The fire in your belly comes out as the pace increases and you drive with more pace as you hear

" Maaveeramum oru nermayum kai korthu kola "(behold valour and honesty)

The hunter sets tail blazing with this number with pacy music, lovely hip hop symbolizing action and lingering lyrics- a sure hit number

Manjal veyil malayile- As the sun basks down, the drive back home reaches more turns and traffic and the light dims around which makes you light up your car and what you can expect is Vennilave Vellivellinilave pouring as interlude from Manjal veyil malayile. Tamil Cinema has seen so many Nilavu songs enough of which you would have noticed from isaignani Illayaraja and SPB has even come out with an album of Nila songs. But this one is a rare gem from Hunter Harris where you find more pace and tranquilising SAX and mixing of instruments. Hariharan simply gets into it in his own style and the lyrics once again stands apart.

The Hunter moves two notches on his trail but hits the target well enough for another winning number. But wait here you tend to feel that the target is the same from the old ones.

Uyirile – I have to slow down my vehicle as I reach nearer to my home and it is much darker now, but the melody of the song is so soothing because it is from Jayalaxmi and Srinivas who have poured their uyir ( life) into the song.

The Hunter HJ shows his colours by now and it is in his blood to copy paste songs which you might have felt you have heard umpteen times and I have to salute him for his astuteness by giving new tinge to it and make it audible today.

Paartha mudhal naale – What can you ask from Bombay Jayashree. She pours nectar into a song which you have heard so many times in HJ movies. There is no Kaatchi Pizhai (Vision blur ) nor varthai pizhai (Lyrics blur) but the blur is from HJ who gets caught in the same syndrome trying to give a melancholy every time.( yesu piranthare-My God, I will stop at that )

The Hunter can only catch the same animals every time and gets struck with the same target which switches you off from now.

Nerupay- Even Somya Ray cannot keep the flame going. As I have reached home, I have to switch off my S Drive not because it is time. The fire in my belly has got erased by this Nerupay song which fails to stimulate my mind but can take my nerves because he is at it again. Have we not seen Chirangeevi dancing to this tune before in Indra.

The Hunter misses his target completely even if it is a known target once again. The new mantra of Hunter is to copy and simulate from his own numbers rather than from foreign numbers and that is where he fails to stimulate.

The hope of a great album vanishes into thin air as Vallavan becomes stronger and Jilenru is cool enough pick from ARR. The S Drive lights up for the next evening.

Karka Karka kallum karka endru sona naman, Karka Karka Kapi karka endru sona HJ.

The Kapi (Coffee) is always the same as long as the seeds are same and it nourishes and lingers in you for the day.
