Jumbo - no good

Well......when I went to purchase a washing machine, all the advice I could receive was to buy a semi automatic one since it is value for money for middle class and also fully automatic is not for people with limited water supply.

I went to the market and trusted the brand and bought their newly launched Jumbo Wash, my first washing machine.

This is a 7 kg capacity single tub, semi automatic washing machine. It does not have a separate tub for rinsing like many other models have. It has a separate spinner tub for drying purposes. It offers two modes of wash - gentle and strong. It has mechanical timers for wash and spin (dryer) The machine is nice in appearance. It has a fibre base with projected legs - this design allows passage of water under the washing machine.

Soon I realised that was not such a smart buy. It does not clean properly. The collars and cuffs of shirts still remain dirty. Common tub for washing and rinsing is not so convenient when you have more than one load of clothes to wash.

The biggest problem is the dryer. It does not work in winters (Delhi winters are cold). In the beginning I thought there was problem with the dryer. Called the support guys, he did his standard gimmicks, applied some oil and it worked after some time. But the next day it didn’t work again. My wife kept the machine shaking and kicking for 20 min., till it started to work. Then it became a routine. After 2 years I realised that the dryer has been working fine otherwise in seasons other than winters and every winter it has problems.

Though it did not develop any other problems otherwise even after more than 3 years, my advice is not to buy this jumbo machine, because the bigger capacity seem to be of less help and single tub is painful.
