Videocon prides itself in customer service. Do they? Unfortunately, I have not been a witness to their special customer treatment. We bought this nonsense 280 litres fridge. Ok we bought this in the winter...you know Delhi winter...and it worked fine. It chilled the water, it kept my chocolates fresh for days...my mother loved her new Videocon. My brother thought that we have paid a good price for a decent piece of machine. My sister could get her ice-cubes at anytime.
Boom came the summer. One fine day, the compressor stopped working. We called the dealer. He sent an engineer within 2 days. The engineer played around with something...moved it back and forth and said kuch nahi...aise hi baar baar khol bund karnay se, compressor garam ho gaya tha.. What do you expect, fridge hai...koi locker nahi. Kholna to padega. Anyway, it worked fine..but it would be like 3 calls to the engineer each week.
Finally, I demanded that the dealer replace the compressor or the entire refrigerator. He did neither. Said its working fine.
My mom is too humble to demand. My sister and brother had no time to follow-up and myself, my academics and work were a priority then fighting with a refrigerator dealer. Couple of thousand I think gone down the drain. We did not buy a new one, but we have reconciled ourself into accepting this sick Videocon product. Ok, I dont know how everybody has felt with their Videocon products, but for me, its disaster at first buy. My aunt uses a Videocon Washing Machine...she has never complained...My experience has lead built in me a distaste for all Videocon products. Comeon, we spent so much money and time on it. I may be a stray example..how do other members find their Videocon products? Let me know, for very soon Videocon is planning to run Indian Airlines and I dont want to be inside the aircraft with bad air-conditioning.
Added on 21 Dec, 2000: I read in a business newspaper that Videocons chairman, Mr. Dhoot was lying when he said that they have a tie-up with Cathay Pacific for technical maintainence, if Videocon gets to run Indian Airlines. Cathay Pacific denied this and said, it doesnt maintain its own planes in India, forget about maintaining Indian Airlines. They outsource from British Airways.
Now why would I buy product of a company whose senior executives are not honest. Amrita
