Ive been using a Visto email account for well over a year now, and to me, that says a lot about its usefulness. Ive gone through a fair few email providers in my time online, including stints with the ubiquitous Yahoo Mail and Hotmail, and while I do still use both occasionally, when push comes to shove, Id much prefer things be sent to my Visto account ahead of either of them!
Features
One of the standout features of a Visto email account is the absolutely huge 15MB inbox allowance youre given. With Hotmails limit being 2MB, and Yahoos being 6MB, its not hard to see why Visto is a clear winner here, with 7.5 times the storage capacity of Hotmail! While obviously this wouldnt be of use to everyone, for people who get a large volume of email, or a steady flow of large emails, or even people who just cant get online to check regularly, all those categories of people will find this huge inbox very useful.
If you refer to your 3 friends you get additional 25mb space , that means you end up having 40mb of email space. Isnt that amazing. Now you dont have to waste time in deleting the emails.
But Visto also has quite a few other very neat features!Wheres the now standard folders in which you can file certain emails youd like to keep, but not have clutter in your inbox. You can also set up some adequate filters to automatically file away emails in the appropriate folder. You dont have the flexibility of something like Outlook, but for most purposes youll find the filtering more than meets your requirements.
Because of the 15MB allowance, this means you can use your Visto account for temporary storage, if for instance youd like to access some documents from another location, but dont want to send them directly for security purposes, you can simply email them to yourself, at your Visto inbox, go to the other computer youd like to access the files from, login to Visto and voila! You have your file! I know other websites like idrive etc offer services like this, but why go to the hassle of signing up at yet another website, when Visto has the capability to hold so much anyway?
Ease of Use
The interface Visto uses is fairly simple. Most functions are easily worked out for the novice user, although some of the more advanced functions can be a little obscure. One thing in particular which irked me was the way in which the auto-login switch is hidden away deep within your Preferences section.
When you login to Visto, you can choose to have the computer youre accessing it from remember your login name and password, and then when you type in https://visto.com next time, youll automatically be re-directed to your Inbox. This method isnt a good idea if youre on a shared computer, but for single home users its an absolute God-send!
However, where it falls down is that if youd like to later remove this option, it takes an awful lot of digging to find the right checkbox to untick. There are good instructions/helpfiles available on the site, but hiding something as important as this away in a sub-sub-sub menu is not a good idea! Otherwise, Visto is much the same as any other web based email site. You get a limited address book (not as good as the built-in windows one, but again, adequate), as well as the ability to CC and BCC copies of emails to people, which can come in handy!
Reliability
As with any website, Visto has its downtimes. They do seem to be pretty good in keeping their outages to a minimum, but if you need to have access to a certain email immediately from your account, youd be safer to print out a copy when you receive the email, just in case! Its also always a good idea to have at least one backup email address with a completely separate email provider.
Another big issue is that old emails are archived from time to time, which means you cant get immediate access to them. This creates major problems again if you need access to an email immediately. Again, if an email is important, its best to keep more than one copy of it! Its just common sense.
Customer Service
Man they have got a fantastic customer service. I got my issues solved within 1 working days. I doubt any of the email service provider has such a good customer service provider.
Overall
Its a good email service provider with lots of space and its speed is also good compared to hotmail and yahoo. Beleive me I have got 4 visto accounts, so you can imagine how I like this email service provider.
Just removing some of the flaws as most of the email service providers have, its really the best bet.
If youre in the market for a new email address, you should definitely give Visto a look, and for the price, you cant really do too badly!
