What are we trying to sell in VIVA? Music, attitude, lifestyle or a cult. If its all of them jumbled together then I think then the Star guys have done a decent job.
But on the slate for for VIVAs contribution to music and the longevity of their music, (which are prime to a band)I think we need much more deep rooted music rather than bubble gum pop singers.
The music is passable and will need to piggyback on videos, shows, PR, concerts, affiliations, promotions to drive the sales. If the piggyback is stronger than the product then they will achieve good sales, but will not be able to match it in their second album, making them an one-album-wonder.
A true and a very valid test of their holding power would be if their second album oversells their first one.
Moreover the charts failures of POPstars in other part of the world invites little confidence in VIVA. I wish them luck !
