Vivah is simple story of a boy and a girl, who are just living their life. one day as it is very common in our culture a family friend (common friend of two families) comes with a "oh I have someone in mind for your daugter or your son" . so as the story goes boy gets to see the photo and agrees to go see her in person. they go, and both are shown as very simple, sweet and shy. they agree to marry. so engagement happens.. now things happen in between that leads us to believe how much the poonam(amrita rao) and prem (shahid kapoor) have fallen for each other.
what worked for me in vivah was its simplacity. its very typical sooraj barjatya film. by that I mean the extended families.. indian customs... songs, picnics et cetra. also, the chemistry of the lead pair is amazing. they made great couple and I couldn’t imagine prem w/o poonam or vice versa.
now among performances.
Everyone is great. This is by far best performance by both Amrita Rao and Shahid Kapoor, and definatley among the best performances of the year by actress and actors. Among supporting cast Anupam Kher as usual is great, Alok Nath like in every Sooraj Barjatya’s film plays role of a father well, Manoj Joshi also does well . SIma Biswas is great too, she is in her different avatar altogether.
Music--i didnt like the music before but I love it after watching the film. It goes well with the film.
Vivah is not perfect film, it does make you wonder that in the country where a shakbhaji wala has a mobile, how come the rich person from Delhi still writes a letter?
I recommend Vivah. 8/10
