without wasting any time time, let me raise a question straightforwardly....
WHAT IS WRONG WITH VIVEIK OBEROI ?
let me evaluate him on all standards which count to be someone in the world’s largest film industry.
LOOKS - lovable, cute
SCREEN PRESENCE - good
ACTING - above average
REPUTE - minus !
this is the reason why Viveik Oberoi is yet a wannabe. he has done everything from changing his name spelling to attepmting various genres to get lucky but his image of "Mr. UNPOPULAR" belies him everytime.
reason : that one bloody press conference anti salman khan !
apr 2003, Viveik oberoi was hot property with two filmfare awards along with many others, two box office triumphs and a rapidly incresing female fan following. he was also in news for gifting a puppy to aishwarya rai which supposedly began their affair. but that one outrageous step changed everything.
he spoke against salman as if there was no tomorrow. he gave DETAILED ACCOUNT OF SALMAN’S MISCHIEFS [ 41 Calls, life threatening challenge, unprintable expletives ] to the press, hoping he has blazed a trail and the salman’s goodwill will vanish soon.
little did he know that he had spoilt everything what he achieved in two years of hard work and luck. since viveik tossed the names of many biggies of the film industry alegedly as a part of his conversation with salman, he upset them all to no end. RANI, ASH, DIA were irritated. [ though ASH sustained her relation with him, only to break it a few years later ]
nov 2006, VIVEIK OBEROI is still striving to make it big. let us once revisit his filmography and analysis what could be the reasons for his selection of his flicks :-
COMPANY - nothing was wrong about it.
ROAD - ram gopal varma was his mentor then.
SAATHIYA - a good story, his friend’s debut venture
DUM - a central character
DARNA MANA HAI - a path breaking concept, ramu ji couldnt be refused.
MASTI - indra kumar hardly fails at his comedies
YUVA - mani ratnam
KYON ! HO GAYA NA - [ trivia : this was his own story and screenplay ]
KISNA - subhash ghai is a proven career building mentor
KAAL - dharma productions
HOME DELIVERY - the success of HOME DELIVERY
PYARE MOHAN - no one can salvage a bad script, not even indra kumar
OMKARA - vishal bhardwaj
NAKSHA - [ even the god cant defend him here ! ]
ok. agreed, he does not act very brilliantly. but then. how many do ?
what is even more disappointing is the cold shoulder given to him by his own colleagues. RANI MUKHERJI maintains a "no comments" on him till date, bhansali thinks he is the most over rated actor, ram gopal varma openly admits that oberoi is not even in his top 100 priorities.
why ? that one bloody press conference !
he may be a bit upstart, arrogant and imprudent as a person but that doesnt lessen his credibility.
he was offered saif’s role in HUM TUM but was abruptly thrown out because RANI preffered a compatible partner [ if to go a bit deep, Mr. OBEROI once said in press "my life is not imaginable with out RANI", the press interpretted it as another budding love affair, and RANI was all angry ]
he was even a part of mani ratnam’s GURU. what ? why you see madhavan at his place ? need I say anything ?
a few days later after the cast was final, mani ratnam was organising a charity function in chennai. if viveik wanted, he could hyave held a grudge against mani sir but he maintained his respect for him and attended the function in full spirits.
many people accuse of him being showy and doing publicity stunts time and again [ including his charity work and fixatio with aishwarya rai ]. but I dont think so. I think there is no perfect male partner for Ms. RAI under the sun. and he has surely a noble spirit. he went to the affected places at the time of tsunami, gave some help and adopted a village when SHAH RUKH and others were busy drawing cheques for the causes [ no offenses to SRK fans, read my review on SRK ]
VIVEIK OBEROI is a talented actor, has a charming screen presnce and has given some great moments to cherish [ climax of SAATHIYA, the intro scene in COMPANY etc. ] even his career is abound with some wisely chosen steps. there are simply no reasons why he is what he is today. except for "that one bloody press conference".
at present, he has two projects with sanjay gupta productions with one in a lead role. hope he gets his due respect ans recofnition in the near future.
