I was looking for an AC for a room with size 8 * 12 feet. I did a market survey for ACs in less than 1.5 tonne category as electricity consumption was big factor to be considered and found that LG, Whirlpool, Hitach and Voltas manufacture the same. LG is known for bad quality (atleast in ACs) and so it was out of the race. Whirlpool is yet to prove itself in the AC segment and so I did not take a chance with it. The dealer who had both Hitachi and Voltas recommended that for ACs less than 1.5 tonne, buying a Hitachi AC is unnecessarily spending extra money. The same dealer also promised that a Voltas .75 tonne would EASILY handle a 8*12 feet room! I went for it. Following are my experiences(which I learned the hard way):
1) a Voltas .75 tonne cannot handle a room size more than 8*8 feet (average room height) effectively. With my room size of 8*12 feet, it is not able to bring down the temperature lesser than 26 degrees! 26 is last!
2) I was promised by the dealer the electricity consumption would be just a little more than a full size room cooler! To my horror and disbelief, its just a little less than a 1.5 tonne AC!!
3) The timer function doesn’t work properly in the new out of the box AC. I am trying to get the dealer to come and check the same these days.
4) I have been told by many now that instead I should have gone for a 1.5 tonne AC cause with the trip/cut functionality and the effectiveness of a 1.5 tonne AC, by electricity bill could have been lesser than what I am paying with a .75 tonne AC!!
The only thing I liked about this AC was the initial cost I had to pay(Rs 12000 excluding stabilizer)
